OK Gov. Stitt (R) rebukes state Superintendent Ryan Walters for making immigrant children "political pawns" by firing 3 school board members:

"Unfortunately, we’ve got people that are really trying to attack six, seven, eight-year-old kids, and I'm not gonna let that happen."

Somebody’s money bag must be burning. We really need recall elections in Oklahoma…

He's definitely aiming to be OSU president. I can't think of any other reason he would after all these years act like a reasonable person on education, at least against Walters' nonsense. The faculty would revolt if he was appointed as a Walters sidekick. I hope they still do if he's appointed.
This is what I thought, but one of my lobbyist friends said that Stitt would probably need a PhD or a JD to be considered for the job and he has neither. Doesn’t mean he can’t help one of his friends get the job. Most, if not all, college presidents in Oklahoma have a PhD or JD.

'We've got to get rid of this guy,' Oklahoma-based CEO says of Ryan Walters

I hope the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka is not looking to get out of Kansas, because if they are Ryan Walters and legislators like Deevers keep giving them motivation to come.

Dude is described as a Super Conservative, Donated to 136 GOP campaigns including Stitt, Trump, Mark Wayne, Lankford etc etc etc..

And his call to Remove Walters was Met with CHEERS from the other 250 Oklahoma CEO's in the Audience.

WOW. Maybe Oklahoma is waking up a bit from the TDS

Rob Miller announced he's running for state superintendent. I needed a little bit of hopeful news today.
This is awesome!! It has been in the works for awhile (hence why he got invited to State of the State address and received a shout-out).

Full disclosure: I know Rob very well. He is an OUTSTANDING person and leader. I truly cannot think of a better candidate for leadership of Education in Oklahoma. He is being smart and pragmatic running as a Republican, but his personal politics are left of center. But he cares deeply for students and rejects the silliness of both the far-right and far-left.

I've heard nothing but good things about him in NE Oklahoma....Tulsa Union, Owasso and BA teachers I personally know have been very appreciative of him

And the Bixby Band folks live him too

I don't know him at all. But, I'd vote for him against the incumbent as it is 99 % likely he would be better. Glad to hear good words.

not sure your need to include what you think about his personal politics, but whatev....he says it has nothing to do with politics, and just wants what´s better for Oklahoma students and families...I was hoping he was a republican, cuz I can see a really good candidate running as a democrat vs ryan and still losing in our state...

I added it because of your last sentence. He needs to win the Republican primary. Rob’s achilles heel may be his blog that he was very active with a dozen years ago (prior to when he got the Sand Springs Superintendent job). From what I remember there was absolutely nothing Miller posted that was even remotely outlandish. But he was extremely passionate in his blog. He just was very pro-teacher union, pro public school funding, raising taxes for more education funds, and pushing against school choice initiatives. I personally did not agree with a couple of items he posted, but I already knew him at the time and fully respected his POV (and learned from him as well). But there are subjects he discussed that on the surface may appear liberal to a GOP voter.

Politics is brutal and my guess is Walters will use, twist, and misconstrue some of his writings in a Republican primary and try to portray him as far-left wing. It may work for some low information voters.

I believe there is a better than decent chance Walters will run for a higher office in the next election cycle than the one he is presently in.

I hope he does.....and gets destroyed in the primary.

So what are you guys gonna do if he wins the primary?

Also is Oklahoma an open primary state?

Oklahoma is not an open primary state.

If he runs for Lieutenant Governor, that’s an essentially powerless position so I won’t worry if he wins.

If he runs for Governor, I don’t think he wins the primary, but if he does and wins the election I’ll be retired and think about moving.

Closed for republicans. Democrats allow independents to vote in primaries. I know this cuz I’m registered independent and only allowed to vote in democratic primaries. May have to change my party to republican before the primaries…

Yeah, if there is such a thing as a Republican candidate to vote for in the primary who isn't a far-right extremist Nationalist Christian.
