Portal Recruiting Thread

Dean could still stick around and play the point. Clary is also a PG. That would be an upgrade of the Dean/Brantley combo from this year. If Dean does leave I d assume we’d find a ball control, assist first type of PG to compliment Clary’s score first style.

We’ll absolutely land a stretch 4 and a Center to round out the class. I’d heard Kelvin will be able to step in and ply Newmans role and I’d expect we look for a Chi Chi type player, a guy who has size/length that can shoot the 3. I’d also expect to land a power forward type as well.
Can Jennings be a stretch 4 if his shot develops? I watched him during warmups and he has a decent stroke mechanically. If he can be a 1-2 3pt shot per game and consistently knock it down he has the power to be able to back his man down.

Also if Dean stays and works on decision making below the ft line he can be effective at the point. Don’t know if want him as the primary pg but he could be an effective option w Clary.

Jennings has good forms on his free throws and shot a high percentage. So the potential is there. But he has a super slow release, so he’d need to wide open. I think Lutz prefers the type of guy like Newman or Chi Chi at the 4 though. A guy that’s a better shooter and can defend multiple positions. I think Jennings started this year only because Chi Chi preferred coming off the bench and because with our lack of size we needed Jennings rebounding ability with the other starters.

I’m confident that if Dean stays he can improve his decision making. He improved a ton this year. He basically stole the starting PG spot from Brantley and his conference stats were solid. His shooting and assists numbers definitely went up, but like you said he needs to get the turnovers down.

I hope we go after this guy. Watched him play a couple times this year and loved his game. Good size, played solid defense, shot a good percentage from 3 for a big, and his box +\- is insanely high, +7 a game when he was on the court. Most good college players are around +4ish, elite ones are +10. Or if you’re Cooper Flagg this year you’re at a freaking +16.

Following his coach to WVU

Seems kind of late in the cycle if Dean wanted to enter the portal. I guess he could be having conversations first and if he enteres its because he found a spot. Pretty sure that's against "the rules" but we all know their ain't no rules right now.

Could be waiting as leverage. Becomes the “best available” PG when no others are in, could cause bidding war for his speed and steals stats

Apologies if someone has already brought him up. But 247 has listed us as offering/interested in Gabe Dynes (7'3" Center, Youngstown). Is there any further news on this? I think he would be a good addition, length, skill, and pretty young. I think he would make an impact right away and fit the system well. He is also from Kentucky so I bet Lutz has some sort of connection there with his tenure at Western Kentucky.

Lutz's comments on the new additions who have officially signed:

"Kanye is a fast point guard who will fit seamlessly into our up-tempo offense. He has performed at a high level over the course of his career. While his 2024-25 season was, unfortunately, cut short by a leg injury, he's full-go now and ready to be a playmaker for our team. I couldn't be more excited to welcome him to Stillwater and Cowboy Nation!"

"Anthony is already familiar with Oklahoma from his time at Langston, and we're excited to welcome him back. He's a big, versatile guard who can play multiple positions. He was one of the nation's best scorers last season before injuring his foot, and he will thrive in our system and style of play."

(Roy was also listed as 6'5")

"VJ comes from a successful family who have given him a great foundation for success," head coach Steve Lutz said. "He's a hard-working, highly skilled, competitive guard with great size and unlimited potential. He has a chance to be an impact player for us in the Big 12 on day one."

"Isaiah was at the top of every opponent scouting report last year but still found ways to put the ball in the basket at a high rate." Lutz said. "He's a dynamic wing who has the potential to impact both ends of the floor with his size and athleticism. He is a player who can score the ball in a variety of different ways. We're excited to welcome him to the Cowboy Basketball family."

Camden spent his first year at Memphis and played a total of 2 minutes. Must have been able to redshirt that year because this upcoming season will be his 5th year. Spent the next 2 years at Virginia Tech, not averaging more than 8 minutes per game either year. Delaware turned out to be a great fit though as you can see his numbers in the quoted post. You can't see unless you open the tweet that he made 96 3s on 41.6% from 3. His eFG% was 58.3% which is excellent and he shot 78.5% from the line. He also started all 36 of Delaware's games and averaged 34.3 minutes per game. I would be really excited if we landed this guy as a tall, long, efficient spot up shooter to go along with all the playmakers we have added.

Oh, and by the way, Camden played 40 minutes and dropped 35 points on Rick Pitino's 31 win St. John's team, going 9-11 from 3.

9-11 from 3 sounds real nice
