We don't look bad. Good tempo and great D in the 2nd half.
Difference in the game was the FT line. They went 6-10 we went 20-28. With the amount of 3s they shot the discrepancy makes sense.Pokes win 80-71
This team beat Green Bay earlier in the week by 15, and they hit 15 treys today
I was noticing a lot of open corner 3's, the defender that was guarding the corner would try to move to the ball and not get back in time.2nd game in a row where a team gets hot from the 3 point line and stays in the game. Are they this good at shooting is our 3 point defense bad?
Thanks for sharing that video. I love that Lutz has a high standard and he doesn't come down from that, even if his team gets a win. He demands defensive excellence. I think he has built a team that is capable of being very good defensively, hope they will buy in and perform up to their capability.
This guy is the epitome of a championship caliber coach. Maybe Gundy can take some notes.
1) Not rewarding selfishness.
2) Doesn’t care about personal stats
3) Never happy with subpar play
4) Accountability in all parts
5) Has a high expectation and not lowering it
6) Not scared to sit players
7) Very very intense yet calm demeanor
8) Perfectionist
9) Very very very high IQ. Will take some time for players to play catch up but live his attention to details
10) Like he said we cannot be a team of spurts. Takes full buy-in and relentless effort.
Love it!!!
-Dean has unbelievably quick hands.
-Bryce still has some old habits but Coach keeps him accountable.
-We don’t give up on the defensive end. Players work hard to recover or close out.
-Basketball IQ is greatly improved.
-Shot selection was not as good this game.
-Chi Chi has some ability but he will need to be more controlled. Witnessed a heated exchange between he and Coach game 1 and there were moments in game 2 where he put his offense ahead of the team structure. Coach without naming names alluded to this post game.
-Defensive rebounding wasn’t as good as game 1.
-Didn’t start out great turnover wise but did fantastic rest of the way.
-Offensive player motion and ball movement is night and day different.
-These guys play hard.
I’m not comparing Lutz to Gundy. I realize I agreed w the post w the video above and the Gundy notes but I was referencing the video and the bullet points. When he gives us 18 years of performance exceeding anything we’ve ever seen in his sport at OSU then it will be appropriate to compare him

My problem with Gundy is that he looks and sounds uninterested, during and after the game. We certainly play like he's uninterested. The product he's put on the field is not worth $7.625 million.I’m not comparing Lutz to Gundy. Little off topic but I’m huge on Gundy. Think after last year we should have named the field after him. One season does not necessitate a knee jerk reaction. I didn’t even take offense to his fans comment. Don’t think that’s what he meant and getting fans upset over his comments is what he does. No one is talking about other coaches or players for the most part. Gundy focused it on him He’ll either get it fixed the right way or he’ll take other principled action. It’s who he is and who he has shown us over almost 30 years in orange.
As far as Lutz goes, I like what I’m seeing and what I’m hearing. This season was always going to be hard bc of roster turnover. Let’s get to around 15 wins. Continue to rebuild the roster w a good blend of HS and portal talent.
I don’t see how OSU ever gets a Cade Cunningham/Marcus Smart player out of HS. We just don’t have the NIL. But if you get high IQ hard nosed 4 stars like he is, grab underdeveloped high star upper class transfers and then the Arturo Dean/Chi Chi/Devo/Pat/Jennings/Brantley types build your roster to get us back in top 1/2 of Big12.
What’s going to make this so hard of a rebuild is I saw a Power40 poll that had 9 Big12 teams in top 35 and 8 in top 30. Then you add in NIL difficulties where BYU is rumored to be in on c/o 2025 #1 for north of $4,000,000 (which I would bet is $3.75 million more than our entire NIL budget for basketball).
To recap: Huge Gundy fan. Blossoming Lutz fan.
Re Gundy. But it's not one season. 2 years ago we collapsed and had half the team leave. Last year we started off horrible with the dumb 3 headed QB rotation and RB rotation, turned it around and then no showed against UCF and nearly lost several that shouldn't have been close. This is year 3 of crap on the field... at the tune of >$2.5 mil per win this season.I’m not comparing Lutz to Gundy. I realize I agreed w the post w the video above and the Gundy notes but I was referencing the video and the bullet points.

The T was of what he did after hanging on the rim. Stared down the player. Finally had a chance to watch the replay of the Pokes - Tommy matchup.
-That was not a good call for a T on Suemnick. He hung on the rim for a microsecond to make sure no Tommy was under him. Bad call.
-Also, Suemnick worked hard and played really well.
The good
-Not a lot of bad fouls. I'm so glad we're not doing that this year.
-Once again, nice job sealing defenders. On one play, we sealed two defenders on a drive, creating a nice two line highway to the rim. That's team offense and unselfish basketball. Good to see.
-I like that Coach Lutz does not want the team to settle for 3s, even though Tommy was giving us space to shoot. Last year, we would have seen a ton of 3s and maybe a loss.
-Hands! A lot of great steals. Exciting and leadings to scores.
-It looks like the entire team is buying in. Love to see that. We can win some games if everyone plays hard and smart the entire game.
-I love how we are playing D with our feet, staying in front with hands up. Good stuff!
-When we amped up the D, we created some lock-down situations for Tom and he had nowhere to go with the ball.
The bad
-Free throws. We're proven we're better than that.
-Box outs. Several times Tommy got offensive rebounds they shouldn't have.
That's it. Like everyone else, I like what I see! Go Pokes!!!
Edit: Add one thing: No standing around on offense. A lot of purposeful movement off ball. That will keep defenses on their toes.
Jawed at him and clapped his hands toward him, too.The T was of what he did after hanging on the rim. Stared down the player.
