I really liked Boynton as a person but he left a lot to be desired as a basketball coach. Lutz seems to have the whole package. This season might be a little up and down but the future looks bright in GIA.
If this season and next turn out to be as good as we hope, we had better be ready to pay Lutz more than we are.
I think he learned a lot last year having so many veterans. Last year seniors are desperate to make a pro team and make $ so they tend to have selfish tendencies. Hard to break that desperation. Mixing in so many younger players with some foreign veterans looks like a fun mix of talent so far with some depth which is nice to see! As we saw last year I love his tireless transparency and tough verbiage. He demands respect and has earned it with his pedigree. Excited ti watch this team continue to gel and come together!!
I hope he gets another opportunity somewhere else eventually and has more success as a head coach. Seems like a good guy that needs to reevaluate his approach to coaching and be more disciplined in holding players accountable for their play.
