OK GOP CHAIR ENDORSES JACKSON LAHMEYER FOR CONGRESS…
The race to replace Kevin Hern has taken a Christian Nationalist turn.
Last week, OKGOP Chair Charity Linch officially wrote a letter to Donald Trump endorsing “Pastors for Trump” firebrand Jackson Lahmeyer — the guy who got Bible-thumped by James Lankford in 2022 — in the crowded CD-1 Republican primary.
While Lahmeyer and Linch celebrated the endorsement on social media, it didn’t exactly go over well with the old GOP guard.
Four former OKGOP chairs – including Pam Pollard, A.J. Ferate, Nathan Dahm, and Gary Jones – fired off a public letter asking Linch to rescind the endorsement or resign, noting it breaks a long-standing tradition of party leaders staying neutral in primaries.
Linch basically ignored them, arguing the rules don’t prohibit endorsements and she can use her voice however she wants.
Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see if the endorsement even matters. 99% of Tulsa Republicans couldn’t pick Linch out of a lineup, but if Lahmeyer uses it in postcards, ads, and church sermons, it could help.
The real question is whether it – and the backlash – catches Trump’s attention. Probably not (that usually costs money), but if it does, it could reshape the race and push CD-1 even further into Christian Nationalist territory.
