Oklahoma is going backwards

Interesting that the far-right Christian think tank, the OCPA, is irritated that OU's financial strategy is to attract more international and out of state freshman students than Oklahomans. OCPA is glad it's not that way at OSU. OCPA also doesn't like it that there are nearly two liberal students for every conservative student on campus at OU but happy that conservative students outnumber liberal ones at OSU.

In another article the OCPA absurdly tries to devalue higher education in Oklahoma. Its return investment to the economy is only a tiny fraction of what is claimed. And worse it quotes from some conservative economist who “suggests that the relationship between state appropriations for higher education and economic growth is actually negative; resources are taken from competitive private enterprise driven by market discipline and given to an inefficient sector sheltered from such discipline.”

You live in Oklahoma, do you consider racism alive and well?

If you do then you must consider it alive and well across the nation, maybe even the world.

It was alive and well through the 60's and 70's. Not so much now.

How many turd comments on social media does it take for you to consider it alive and well?

I tend to go with what I see in real life, all around me instead of finding my rage or happiness on the internet.
I just read this, and I know you don´t believe what you wrote! Unless, your ´alive and well´ is different than mine...when I say Alive and Well, I am referring to something that is still around when it should be gone or extremely limited...racism in 2025 is different than it was in the 60´s and 70´s in that people ´try´ to mask it better, but times they are a changin´ and to me there seems to be a slow movement into being a more open racist like I am assuming you are referencing in the 60´s and 70´s...thanks a lot tRump...(JK, or am I?!)

It's bad. From Garnet to Yale on Admiral is a solid string of the most heartbreaking humanity you can imagine.

Dallas started giving them their choice of a bus ticket to Tulsa or OKC. Most chose Tulsa. If Oklahoma were truly without compassion they'd bus them right back, but at least we're attempting to get them some help.
But this evening I saw FOX 23 Tulsa do an in depth report on homelessness to determine where they came from. It found that 82% of them come from mostly Tulsa and some from elsewhere in Oklahoma such as Tahlequah. It made no determiniation where the remaining 18% came from. So it's a myth that very many of them get bussed in from out of state such as Dallas. Nobody at the Tulsa bus station had heard of such a thing.

The report wondered if the story that the homeless have been getting bussed was inspired from an old 2007 South Park episode.

My story came from a TPD officer who was on a homeless task force in 2024...

Of FFS. Our state legislators have THIS as a priority??
SHM. Stupid.

I am starting to agree with the description of Charlie Kirk as a “divisive figure”, but for different reasons.

Far-left: Kirk was racist and evil.

Far-right: He was basically a saint and should be revered.

Normal Americans: It was a sad tragedy and horrible news, but he is just one dude.

That is just weird.

@JTOSU is right. Hes just some dude. Yeah he was popular/infamous depending on how you felt about things but it's not like he was a sitting president. This is cultish behavior. The moment of silence stuff was a but much but its a moment of silence. Talking about permanent monuments and holidays. That's just nuts.

Right. I don't recall Oklahoma Republicans wanting a Jerry Falwell day after he died. Or a Jimmy Swaggert day after he died earlier this year. But then he was too much of a shame for going to cheap motels to have fun with whores.

Oklahoma Republican Files Bill to Mandate Every Public University in State Erect a ‘Charlie Kirk Memorial Plaza

Charlie Kirk never even lived in Oklahoma. I think it's more of Arizona's business on how to honor him since he lived there, if it wants. TPUSA is also there. Maybe Oklahoma Republicans ought to honor one of their own with a special day, statues or plazas. But it seems to Oklahoma Republicans that Kirk was as big as Jesus. If Democrats wanted the death of a leftist activist treated the same who was not an Oklahoman, I'd feel the same way.

I can think of 3 statues on the OSU campus and who they portray did infinitely far more for OSU than Kirk ever did, who wrote a book to make America's universities look bad. There are two memorials on the OSU campus to honor those killed in plane crashes while serving OSU. A memorial or statue of Kirk would only serve to diminish the greatness of these people. They were all great without being divisive.

I wonder if something similar is being filed in other red states.

If any of the bills have parts in them that are seen as unconstitutional from the government compelling free speech, then they will be taken to the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

I sometimes like to go George's Stables Bar in Stillwater to see weird people, though that may not be the best word for it. It's certainly far better than seeing dead people. The past Wednesday night there was Karaoke night as usual, and this time it was absolutely something else. One guy who got up to sing was dressed decked out in a Garfield the cat costume. He pulled the top over his head and proceeded to sing Frank Sinatra's classic, "New York, New York" in a somewhat better than usual bad karaoke voice. I loved his bold weirdness. It's certainly a world's better way to weird off than Oklahoma Republican legislators who want to put up statues and plazas to honor Charlie Kirk, who isn't even from Oklahoma or ever lived there. Two other people one with dyed green hair and the other with auburn red hair also had their great moments before the mike. Another guy wore a T-Shirt that said on it, "Brains are awesome. I wish more people had one". I certainly agree.

I was later greatly surprised to notice some guy wearing a T-Shirt that said on it, "Reagan/Bush '84". And at first thought, oh, wow, what a great time it was back then in American history. Probably America had never been so greatly united, compared to what it's like now. Reagan won 49 out of 50 states for his reelection. But upon further reflection, Reagan had fired air traffic controllers because they were unionized. While Reagan expressed a few great, iconic moments, such as "Gorbachev, tear down this wall", all Reagan mainly did for America was to overly support capitalism, the big corporate agenda. Fast forward decades to now and it seems more like than ever before America wants to support the capitalist, conservative agenda and worse Trump authoritarianism. Prove me wrong America, by voting in 2026 to put Democrats back in the House and Senate.

I think that’s a great idea, but NOT at public universities. I think we should remove all traitorous Confederate generals and leaders statues with Charlie Kirk statuary. He certainly wasn’t a traitor, and from what I’ve gleaned he’s totally more tolerable than the old white supremacist idols Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis. We’d need a minimum of 77 (but probably in the hundreds) monuments here in Cracker Barrel Oklahoma. Dead last in funding in educations mandates that we spend public monies on shrines. The Neo Confederacy is alive and well in MAGA. Let’s make them cry and remove their treacherous idols.

Only partially kidding.

FORMER MANNFORD COP PLEADS GUILTY TO ALL CHARGES:

Former Mannford Police Officer Matthew Waltman pled guilty today to sexually assaulting two teenage boys.

Waltman accepted a plea deal from prosecutors and pled guilty to all eight charges, including rape by instrumentation and giving alcohol to minors. He will be sentenced October 21st.

Waltman worked as a Mannford Police Officer and a school resource officer in Mannford Schools.

Prosecutors charged Waltman with rape last March after a Mannford student came forward saying Waltman invited him over to his house, gave him 12 shots of whiskey, then sexually assaulted the boy.

Investigators say the student got sick and laid down to feel better, but woke up to Waltman assaulting him. They say the student demanded Waltman take him home, and later the student told a pastor about what happened and the pastor called police.

Investigators say Waltman admitted to the police chief, a pastor and Mannford Schools superintendent that he gave minors alcohol but denied an assault, but later said things happened between two consenting adults.

Prosecutors charged Waltman with more crimes this year after another boy came forward saying Waltman had an inappropriate relationship with him when he was a minor.

Waltman has been out on bond since his arrest last March, and will remain out on bond until he is sentenced next month.

I talked to Waltmans attorney today and he said he didn’t want to make comment until after sentencing.

The victims’ families have been frustrated that it’s taken a year and a half to see some progress case, but today they feel some justice seeing Waltman plead guilty.
