Oklahoma is going backwards

You sound like the far-right that thinks teachers are indoctrinating students with LGBTQ content.

There is a definitive and undeniable need for more teachers in the classrooms. And there are many qualified people that could be teachers. But the problem is driven by such low teacher compensation that the position is not attractive for many.

I agree and appreciate the need for the bill, but I don’t agree with the solution.
Also, especially at the high school level, we have to not think that students are just empty vessels being fed with knowledge they can’t analyze.

I still remember a high school physiology class and the teacher was teaching how skeletal muscle cells are multi-nucleated. He commented “To me, this shows that there was a Creator.”

Probably shouldn’t be said in a science class (nor should “proof” of no creator.) But, I heard his thought, I wasn’t harmed, and still remember it (and the fact it is multi-nucleated) 38 years later.

Address Confirmation Notices Mailed to Oklahoma Voters, if you fail to respond your voting access will be terminated after 2028 general election

(Oklahoma City) 04/28/2025 – Over the next several weeks, some registered voters in Oklahoma will receive an Address Confirmation Notice from the State Election Board. The notices are required by state law to confirm whether or not the identified voters still reside at their address on file with their county election board.

Voters who receive an Address Confirmation Notice have 60 days to respond. Voters who do not respond and confirm their address within the allotted time period will be designated as “inactive,” and are required by law to be removed from the voter rolls after the 2028 General Election. “Inactive” voters can reverse their status and avoid removal by updating their voter registration or by voting in any election on or before the 2028 General Election.

State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax (pronounced ZEER-icks) is encouraging voters to help keep Oklahoma’s voter rolls up to date by responding as quickly as possible, if they receive an Address Confirmation Notice. “It takes just a couple of minutes to confirm or update your registration. The easiest way to respond is online through the OK Voter Portal. You can also fill out the card and mail it back to us – postage paid,” said Ziriax.

Not every voter will receive an Address Confirmation Notice – only those that meet one of several reasons specified by state law. Voters who may receive an Address Confirmation Notice include those that have had a first-class mailing returned as “undeliverable,” those with a possible duplicate registration in Oklahoma or another state, or those that have not voted or updated their registration through the 2022 and 2024 General Election cycles.

To learn more about the Address Confirmation Notice process in Oklahoma, visit the State Election Board website. Voters with specific questions regarding their registration should contact their County Election Board.

I don't particularly have THAT big of a problem with this but is it normally THAT small of a window that's looked at? So if your last vote was in the 2020 election they think you're dead or moved away??

I find it hard to believe there were zero religious charter schools in the US before now. Is that really true? Honestly, charter schools in general don't sit right with me, but I think I'm on the side of the catholic school in this case. As long as when the OKC mosque starts a school they get the same treatment.

I’m sure you know it, but our state constitution clearly states that not one dime of public money can be spent on religion or to a pastor etc. How about the Nazi school of fascism? Katy, bar the door!

What about the millions needed to build new brick and mortar religioius schools? The Baptists in Oklahoma might me able to get people to vote yes to raise their property taxes to build them. But probably not the Catholics and certainly not the Muslims. Fairly doling out taxpayer money to the churches for their new schools may not be easy. Probably some churches already have the money to build their own schools, and it won't be costly to turn Sunday school rooms into M-F classrooms. Online only schools probably shouldn't get any tax money.

As for state setting teaching standards the state from displeasing church schools will probably just quit doing that and tell local schools to set their own standards. That could lead to overall lower quality education. So I hope the Catholics lose their court case.

GOP Oklahoma Senate Candidate Says U.S. Shouldn’t Be a Democracy

Bryan Logan backs extreme states’ rights theories and claims Oklahoma can override federal law, raising alarm ahead of the May 13 special election https://meidasnews.com/news/gop-oklahoma-senate-candidate-says-u-s-shouldnt-be-a-democracy
He needs asked questions like if he is a Christian Nationalist? If so, does he support turning Oklahoma public education over to churches and homeschoolers? Does the sound of turning Oklahoma into an Old Testament Theocracy appeal to him. Oklahoma may be short as many as 600 highway patrol troopers. Would he support making state government smaller by abolishing the highway patrol and give responsibility of patrolling the highways to sheriff departments and city police?

Oklahoma Republican State Senate candidate Bryan Logan: “I may be a little crazy here, but I’m 100% for arming teachers and support staff…”

I don’t see how anyone who has spent time in most schools can think like that. That is more than a “little crazy”.

💬 “My clients believe the citizens of Oklahoma and the legislature need to know the facts and the evidence,” said Former Attorney General Mike Hunter.

Hunter is challenging the Oklahoma State Board of Education, claiming the process used to adopt new Social Studies Standards was improper.
