OC and DC Possibilities - New DC Todd Grantham, OC Doug Meacham

Just saw this posted on Facebook…..

“Former Cowboys Cooper Bassett and Andrew Mitchell expected to be hired to coach Oklahoma State offensive line”

What happened to Vance Vice coaching the offensive line? I guess that deal fell through or was fake news from the beginning?

I think Vance remembered the last four times he submitted a resume when Gundy was looking for an OL coach, and then Mike went and hired Greg Atkins, Bob Connelly, Josh Henson, and Charlie Dickey.

Carson Cunningham on the Pistols Firing podcast stated Dr Shrum and AD Weiberg requested to meet with Gundy 4 times and Gundy refused. So the BOR got involved.

Gundy was too busy firing and hiring assistants to meet with Shrum and Weiberg. If the dumb ol' board of regents hadn't stuck their noses where they didn't belong Chip Kelly would have been our new OC. Chip was on a jet in Stillwater airspace ready to land, but the jet did a touch and go after Chip got cold feet due to the BoR. I read all this on a premium message board so it has to be true. 😉

This OC is rapidly approaching the legend of Lance Carson.

Do we have anyone other than Gundy remaining? Not sure about special teams but I think that's every position coach.
For what it is worth, he still has his X handle as running backs coach at tailback u.

Apparently the rules have changed, and there's no limit on how many on-field coaches a program can have now. I assume this is how we're adding an additional offensive line coach and a nickelbacks coach. So there's a chance Wozniak could stay on.

I think this change is a mistake. Sure, coaches love it but honestly, how big do coaching staffs need to get?

At a time when the money is shifting to the players this just feels so college. Multi billion $$$ industry that still goes around with it’s hand out for donations anywhere it can get them.

Also makes the ruling on our QR codes even more ridiculous. You can have a corporate sponsor on the uniform, but a QR code is a bridge too far?🤡

I'll admit that during the chaos of that week, I perceived the BoR negatively, but over time my view has flipped 180°. It makes way more sense given all the info and context that they acted out of necessity, because the others involved wouldn't or couldn't. So the crux of our issue became inaction by our President and AD. We knew Gundy wouldn't act, but it was unknown how Shrum and Weiberg would handle this. Apparently they just...didn't....so the BoR acted, and almost gave them a vote of no confidence. Pretty concerning tbh...
One of the forgotten nuggets of reportage on the BoR meeting (forgotten bc it was one of the first things that happened and was buried after the talk of Gundy being on the verge of being fired leaked out)…. But one of the first things reported after the BoR meeting got started was that Shrum and Weiberg walked into the meeting, and then a short time later walked out visibly shaken and upset with the indication being that the BoR had reamed them out.

Well, that’s one person’s account of how they exited the meeting. Might be true, might not.
I tend to think it’s accurate given Gundy’s behavior and their lack of reining him in to that point.
Very simple to me: nobody’s bigger than the institution or program, not Eddie, not John Smith and not Mike Gundy.

I’m glad the buyout is reduced because I think it’s coming next year. I think there’s definitely a willingness to send his ass packing and he has nobody to blame but himself.
Some of our fanbase needs to get over the fat girl at the High School dance nobody will love us complex and realize that we’ve seen Gundy’s ceiling and that he’s a dinosaur in a new era. Dude won ONE conference title, with Texas down for 15 years and went winless the first year they were gone.

Was Gundy at any of those meetings?

Yeah we weren’t in the meeting and I’m not saying it is true, just saying it was reported but seems to have been forgotten about as (I haven’t seen it mentioned since it happened.)

My God dude give it a break. You’d be more pissed if we won the big 12 next season and made the CFP than if we sucked and Gundy got fired. We get it, you’re tired of him. He agreed to the new terms, is putting together a nice staff and appears to be attacking the portal. Buy in and support the team or move on. It’s getting old honestly.

This is the issue. Do we have the talent to compete? I’m starting to wonder when you look at some of the guys we offer. They are not all diamonds in the rough
When you look at the rankings. The highest rated guys have been the ones that have played for us, and usually some of the main contributors on the team.
He’s coming home

This is a really interesting hire for several reasons
1) I've never seen a school have two OL coaches, now we have Bassett and Mitchell. How will they coach them up? Is one focused on upper classmen, and the other is focused on 1st & 2nd year players? Is one an x's and O's coach, and the other is a recruiter?
2) These are both Joe Wickline guys. That's incredibly encouraging
3) The resume's for both are good indicators of up and comers. Bassett has been a 6 year OL coach, with the most recent being Co-OC at Utah State. Mitchell was and NFL guy for a few years, followed by a few years as an OL coach at TCU/Indiana State. He served as OC at the juco he attended for two years, and has been the head coach there since 2018 (9-2 record in the most recent season). Any chance we are looking for future OC's/ HC's out of these two?
4) Youth is a good thing to have on a coaching staff, especially in recruiting.
5) The Vance Vice smoke screen indicates that this is not business as usual for our program. Whether initiated by the BoR or Gundy, this is the most comprehensive overhaul we've had since wickline/meacham left. Hopefully, it leads to something awesome on the recruiting trail and the field.
