OC and DC Possibilities - New DC Todd Grantham, OC Doug Meacham

This board isn’t happy unless it’s miserable.

This board cracks me up, the same people on here badmouthing Doug Meacham were the same ones wailing with weeping and gnashing of teeth when we failed to hire him as OC when he left to go to TCU.
What a silly take. You don't think it had to do with who we hired instead of Meacham at the time? Or that something could have changed in the last 12 years?

No coach who cares about their future would touch these jobs. They know they will be looking for a new job in a year after Gundy gets canned.

Longtime coaches at a school who pull an o-fer in conference never recover from it.

Here’s some half ass Internet research. These are teams that had zero wins in conference play. I’m not including Penn and Alabama who were both winless in their conference in the 50’s. The year shown was the winless year and the subsequent fallout.

2015 Kansas Beaty’s first year was winless and we know how that ended.

2015 UCF O’Leary resigned after 8 games. 2016 Scott Frost got them to 4-4 and took off from there only to crash and burn at Nebraska.

2017 UTEP Sean Kugler fired five games in and Mike Price took over. 2018 HC Dana Dimel went 1-7

2019 Akron. Tom Arth winless in first season was fired 9 games into 3rd season

I'm not going to be negative about guys who haven't even started yet. However, let's just say that my excitement level going into next season isn't exactly going off the charts.
I totally agree with this. These are not inspiring hires. But whatever they’ve done in the past, for me they have a clean slate here and I hope they do well. I feel like Oklahoma State should be a place where really good coaches want to come and succeed. But maybe I’m over ranking my alma mater, as usually happens.

Yes, yes you are, but every fan of every school agrees with you.😁

You’ve got to imagine that HC contracts are going to look a lot like Belicheck’s deal:

$1.5 million allowance for GM salary. Bama paid $825k this year for this position fwiw.

$13 million for NIL-working under the assumption that the judge rules in April that players can be classified as employees.

$10 million budget for assistants.

$1.5 million for S&C.

Hard to believe how rapidly this sport’s changing. One can only hope that our leadership is on top of this, because we know the head coach isn’t.

Any news on offensive position coaches? It doesn't matter who we get as OC if we don't shore up the OLine. We also better hope our "system" as Gundy refers to it gets an overhaul or the OC won't matter.

As far as the coordinator hires, I'm ok with them...I don't know what some people were expecting but let's be realistic. We have two very experienced coordinators who have had both great seasons and bad seasons in the past. I prefer that over two guys from from division 3 that we've never heard of.

OSU did everything I wanted to bring me back to buying tickets....changed coordinators and restructured Gundy's contract...so I'm going to hold up my end of the bargain and show up to the games. No reason to complain unless/until these guys show they can't get it done. Go Pokes.

It's nice to see someone being reasonable about this. I'm disappointed in the OC choice as I thought we were going to get someone more innovative but I agree-none of us are sitting here saying who? or googling some school no one has heard of. That's better than what we've had recently.

We think it is. Pretty long list of guys like we hired who are just past their prime, but maybe Grantham is Knowles, we’ll see.

True. At least we know that both coordinators at least have experience at this level. Not excited but they also are kind of safe for the most part.

I'm really hoping position coaches are quality and we turn things around on the incoming players.

Oregon on game 2 next year could be ugly.

That might have been the case regardless of all this.

I keep trying to figure out what results are acceptable and should be expected and I think I am at first year of >.500 in conf play (no big blowout losses) and 2nd year in hunt for conf champ game. Otherwise the seat at the top needs to stay hot. We can't survive being a middling program going forward.

If coaching hires this year get us on that path then I'm all for it, but if they don't then we need to not drag things out.

And to be fair and completely honest, this board was going ballistic when Knowles was hired and going on and on about hiring some guy from Duke when other people they were wanting to be hired were passed over. Knowles wasn’t an instant success. It took about three years for him to turn it around. I say give Grantham and Meachem both a chance. They’ll either turn into a Knowles and a Monken or they’ll fall on their faces. It doesn’t encourage the former to happen if they don’t have support.

You mean you would actually shoot old yeller

The coverage has been sound at times but they rarely played the ball. Hopefully this guy can take them to the next level and create more turnovers.
I'd be happy if we just played more aggressively and recruited (bought) at least 1-2 guys per squad that could play lockdown press man.

There's no longer a limit to number of coaches, but off campus recruiting has a limit. Wonder if that means we keep JBC or anyone else vs 1 for 1 replacements.
