OC and DC Possibilities - New DC Todd Grantham, OC Doug Meacham

I’ve said this before, but I believe Gundy’s #1 qualification for an OC or DC is that they won’t leave if they have success.
I agree. I personally don't think any coordinator should ever stay more than 3 years. If they haven't done well enough to be considered for a HC position somewhere then it's time to move on. I also believe having the same coordinators for years makes us too predictable in the Xs and Os

This board cracks me up, the same people on here badmouthing Doug Meacham were the same ones wailing with weeping and gnashing of teeth when we failed to hire him as OC when he left to go to TCU.
I was wailing for Doug when he was dominating the conference mad at my tcu bil because he was riding the success of our should have been oc.

Hopefully he is still that good with a team that has the ability to compete

This is the issue. Do we have the talent to compete? I’m starting to wonder when you look at some of the guys we offer. They are not all diamonds in the rough

Ok. But not everyone on the list is like that.

PLAYER / POSITION / SCHOOL
Kasen Carpenter / OL / Tulsa
Joseph Williams / WR / Tulsa
Luke McGary / TE / Tulsa
Langen Kitchen / DL / Northwest Missouri State
Niles King / DL / Grand Valley State
Jalen Moss / WR / Fresno State
Brandon Rawls / LB / Saginaw Valley State
Cody Hardy / TE / Elon
Cazeem Moore / DE / Elon
Andrew Jones / LB / Grambling State
Eli Sanders / RB / New Mexico
Bryan McCoy / LB / Akron
DT Sheffield / WR / North Texas
Chandler Morris / QB / North Texas
Will Jados / OL / Miami (OH)
Malik Charles / DL / West Georgia
Kalib Hicks / RB / Oklahoma
Corey Walker / DL / Western Michigan
Alex Mitchell / LB / Chattanooga
Lavaka Taukeiaho / OL / Weber State
Julian Humphrey / CB / Georgia
Melvin Siani / OL / Temple
This is embarassing! This is who TU and UCO should be recruiting, NOT US!!!!

I’m more excited for the HC Tulsa brought in than I am for our own team. His intro speech he had a plan. He wanted guys to stay on staff to keep recruits, he wanted a former HC from the conference and coaches in the conference who understand the different teams. He wants energy. He wants to talk to donors and raise money. Outstanding hire. We have a washed up, uninnnovative, tired head ball coach who doesn’t want to adapt and fundraisers to pay players. Ship has sunk. and we are NOT getting that Grambling kid.

I’m guilty of recency bias, I’ll own it.

Like, if you’ve been completely mediocre for the entire timeframe you’re talking about here and you’re just another comfortable fit without a lot of options, convict me.

I’m thrilled we can sign you up, 50 something year old coach who’s made millions by now and are an alum. Happy to give you a golden parachute.👍

The guys we have offered in the transfer portal this year have other really good offers and can play. Go back to page 15 of this thread and I responded with their other offers.

Longtime coaches at a school who pull an o-fer in conference never recover from it.
If that statement is true. I'm wondering if we would have been better off if Gundy didn't decide to stay. I know the buyout would have killed us, but seems like this is going to be a purgatory year anyway and there's a good chance we do this all again next year anyway.

If coaches don't recover from it and no one wants to come in knowing that he won't recover from it then the smart move is rip off the bandaid.

Discussion on Grantham. Lot of talk on turning around defenses, how he's used hybrid players to create multiplicity and his aggressiveness in play calling. Also talk on how recruiting changed and managing NIL.

Any news on offensive position coaches? It doesn't matter who we get as OC if we don't shore up the OLine. We also better hope our "system" as Gundy refers to it gets an overhaul or the OC won't matter.

As far as the coordinator hires, I'm ok with them...I don't know what some people were expecting but let's be realistic. We have two very experienced coordinators who have had both great seasons and bad seasons in the past. I prefer that over two guys from from division 3 that we've never heard of.

OSU did everything I wanted to bring me back to buying tickets....changed coordinators and restructured Gundy's contract...so I'm going to hold up my end of the bargain and show up to the games. No reason to complain unless/until these guys show they can't get it done. Go Pokes.
