I think they would rather help Iran, but it is Chinas oil that Iran is blocking.

Which is the only grounds Trump had to even consider asking China to throw him a bone. China is content on watching us bleed a lot. The Straight isn't bleeding them nearly as much as we're losing on multiple fronts.
 
I think they let some of Indias oil through. Not a stretch to think they could do the same with China.
Despite the conflict, Iran is still shipping large volumes of oil to China, using “dark” transits and selective passage under its control. This is happening because Iran allows its own tankers to move, not because of a treaty with China. [cnbc.com]


It is being reported Iran is currently signaling they are willing to let oil through the Straits but ONLY if the cargo trade is done in Chinese Currency...effectively removing the US Dollar from Global Energy Trade
