Elon Musk told his 159 million followers to get Israel war updates from accounts that have peddled fake news​

Elon Musk pointed X followers looking for updates on the Israel-Hamas conflict toward two accounts known for peddling misinformation.

In a post to X, formerly Twitter, the billionaire suggested @WarMonitors and @sentdefender "for following the war in real-time." Both accounts spread a false claim that there had been an explosion near the White House in May.

Musk deleted the post after three hours, but not before it was viewed by 11 million users and several news outlets. Musk appeared to take issue with a post by the War Monitor account that referred to Gaza fighters as "martyrs."

Replying to the post, Musk said: "Martyrs" is not an objective or accurate word, nor is "murdered". The former implies dying for a cause in battle and the latter implies a deliberate attempt to kill those specific people. While reporting both sides is fair, please use maximally accurate words or I must withdraw my recommendation to follow your account."

The War Monitor account has used the word "jew" in a derogatory way, The Washington Post reported, citing a June X post that has since been deleted.

Musk has spent the last few weeks fighting allegations of antisemitism after a fallout with the Anti-Defamation League over the spread of antisemitic content on X.

Experts have expressed concerns that the platform could be leveraged to spread misinformation about the Israel conflict. X has already faced allegations that it has the highest proportion of Russian disinformation of any major social network.

Representatives for X did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside normal working hours.

The last weekend proved that Twitter/X is indispensable. You think we should just count on MSNBC, Al Jazeera, and CNN to explain to us what’s happening..or that none of those networks have promoted various levels of bullshit for decades now? Get effin real.

Well the certified Blue check marks can be purchased by any random joe blow now on that sight No one knows what is a legit source and what isn't any more .....is it really that much better? Or do you just get to find any and every echo chamber on there that you agree with and thus you feel like it sending the message you like to hear ?

I wouldn't be taking advice on who to get my information from as provided by Elon Musk either....especially when he is pushing the platform he just spent $50 billion buying. He has an agenda in everything he does. Always. and he isn't shy about that either. Several Documentaries he full on admits it upfront. His ideas of what people should consume, watch etc all come with strings to benefit him or getting off planet in some ways.

It's not a coincedence that Russia invaded Ukraine after wanting to for 20 years....China is ramping up.....North Korea is testing a new toy everyday....BRICs forming.....it ain't all on Biden that America is weak, we don't have a SOTH because we bicker like children for an easy example....but no one is scared of us right now. Obama was a good leader that was beloved by the world so you have a competent person the world would follow. Trump is insane and that's scary so there is a F' around and find out factor . Jimmy Carter was probably one of the kindest most genuine men to ever be in the White House, but that doesn’t always translate well into being a political leader. I’m not sure what or who Joe Biden is, whatever he is this situation is clear similar to what Carter dealt with. It’s amazing to see the similarities. Maybe Biden knows how to deal with this, but I’m not hopeful.
