Tensions high in the region

Frequent cross-border attacks between the Lebanese group Hezbollah and the Israeli army have raised fears that the Lebanon-Israel border could become another front in the war.
But tensions are high elsewhere in the region – and the so-called Axis of Resistance is a common player. This is an alliance supported by Iran that includes Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen and groups in Iraq and Syria.
Today, the Houthi rebel group said it had launched ballistic missiles and drones from Yemen toward Israel and warned that there was more to come. A day earlier, the Biden administration said US forces in Iraq and Syria had been attacked 23 times since mid-October, blaming Iranian-backed groups.

US officials have repeatedly warned Iran against escalating the situation. The Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi, appeared to react to those warnings on Sunday, saying that: "Washington asks us to not do anything, but they keep giving widespread support to Israel."
Israel, he said, had "crossed the red lines, which may force everyone to take action".
Here in Lebanon, all eyes are on Hezbollah. Its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, is expected to make his first speech since the Israel-Hamas war broke out on Friday.

Arab American support for Biden, Democrats plummets over Israel, poll shows reuters

WASHINGTON, Oct 31 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden's support among Arab Americans, who are crucial voters in battleground election states, has plunged from a comfortable majority in 2020 to just 17%, a new poll shows, amid growing anger over the Democratic president's support for Israel's attacks on Gaza.

Arab American support for Biden, at 59% in 2020, fell even before the outbreak of violence in the Middle East to 35%, the poll commissioned by the Arab American Institute showed, but has halved since.

The poll, released Tuesday, marks the first time since its inception in 1997 that a majority of Arab Americans did not identify as Democrats - 32% now identify as Republicans and 31% as independents. Forty percent of those polled said they would vote for former President Donald Trump, the likely Republican candidate in 2024, up 5 percentage points from 2020.

THE TAKE

The poll is the latest evidence that Biden's campaign for a second term in office is rapidly losing Muslim and Arab Americans support over his staunch support of Israel. These voters have traditionally voted for Democratic candidates and are prominent in hotly contested states like Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, that could decide the 2024 presidential election.

KEY FINDINGS

A quarter of Arab Americans said they were unsure whom they would support in 2024; 13.7% said they would back Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and 3.8% are backing Cornel West.

Only 20% of Arab Americans would rate Biden's job performance as "good," the poll showed, with 66% reporting a negative view of the president overall.

Sixty-eight percent of Arab Americans believed the United States should not send weapons and military equipment to Israel and believed the U.S. should use its influence with Israel to call for a ceasefire, it said.

Majorities are concerned about rising antisemitism (67%) and anti-Arab bigotry (78%), and 59% report experiencing discrimination, a jump of 6% since the last poll in April.

The poll showed that 45% of Arab Americans were concerned about their personal safety due to the recent violence in Israel and Palestine.

CONTEXTMany Arab and Muslim Americans say they feel betrayed by Biden's financial, political and military support for Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip after an Oct. 7 attack by Hamas militants that Israeli officials say killed 1,400 people and took 239 hostages.

Medical authorities in Gaza on Tuesday said 8,525 people, including 3,542 children, had been killed in Israel's three-week-old air and ground onslaught.

The poll was conducted by John Zogby Strategies of 500 Arab Americans with some answering online only. The poll has a margin of error of 4.9 percentage points.

one of the most ignorant quotes of all time...nobody 'makes' you kill children...or women...or men...it's a choice....
It is an appalling statement, but you still haven’t said what steps they should take to protect their nation. Besides using the simplistic don’t kill innocent civilians how are they supposed to deal with this?

Sure they do. The choice that Israel has made is to put a stop to the murder of their own innocent citizens. Hamas could absolutely put a stop to the loss of most of their innocent citizens but they insist on using them to hide behind and feed the propaganda machine . Again….what should Israel do when your side rapes, murders, and mutilates their women and children?

He doesn’t have an answer because even he knows the only answer involves extreme violence and he’s too busy attaching himself to the newest victim mantra. I’ve asked for their answer several times and so far……..crickets.

"Look what you're making me do!" screams the husband as he's beating the shit out of his wife and kids. My goodness that cartoon is terrifying.
Yes because a nation responding to a terrorist attack that left their innocent women and children raped and murdered is exactly the same as a man beating his wife. WTH?

Lol. He is definitely not a straw man. He has made it perfectly clear where his allegiance lies. If you’re going to insist on answering for @PF5 (he obviously has no interest in answering it for himself) go ahead and answer the question.
It certainly is. Why would he answer a retorical question with someone who is arguing from bad faith?

You misrepresent other posters positions so inaccurately that it is pretty much trolling at this point. Which is against the rules. Consider yourself warned.

Dude, seriously? I know this wasn’t directed at me, but that is absolutely pathetic.

Good grief. I didn’t misrepresent anyone. What exactly is rhetorical about asking your opinion on what Israel’s response should be? If you’re going to continue to complain and moan about Israel’s response it’s perfectly fair to ask what you think their response should be. I’m waiting…

I'm going to break this down as why your posting behavior in this thread is unacceptable.

No one has sided with Hamas in this thread.
First of all I asked @PF5. Secondly, I asked what Israel should have done not what they shouldn’t do. From your response I’ll assume that you’re cool with Hamas killing civilians and then using their own citizens as human shields to prevent retaliation from Israel. From @PF5’s lack of response I’ll assume that he doesn’t have any answers at all.
No one has claimed that Hamas killing civilians is ok or sided with Hamas. The opposite has happened.

Between this and the "What is a fair news source?" and repeated "What should Israel do different?" rhetorical questions you have gotten intro trolling territory. You are not asking those questions in good faith and misrepresent the responses you receive. Which you had a habit of on the last site too, earning you a ban there for a period of time. That posting behavior needs to change. Take note and take a break before a break is forced.

Or …….instead of threatening to ban people who disagree with you you could just simply answer a very straightforward question 🤷‍♂️

it's clear that many pro-Israel backers have no clue what has happened for years to Palestinians at the hands of Israelis...I have given stats/facts of the thousands that have been killed over decades, but that doesn't seem to bother you...do some research on Israel's occupation...if in fact you have done research and know what has gone on for many years, then I suppose we have different views of this and will never see eye to eye...the good ole US of A has done terrible things to people throughout its history, so I guess some see no problem with oppression and discrimination of people who are different than the majority...I don't like it...I cringe at things 'we' have done in the past and are still doing today, and I also have a disgust for how Israel has treated Palestine for decades...I guess my friend who has lived it has opened my eyes and also probably has made me biased, but that's where I am...I am mostly frustrated and mad and saddened that innocent men, women, and many more children are paying the ultimate price of their lives....I'm rambling now, so will stop...I do not condone hamas attack, I support Palestine, I somewhat feel their frustrations and 'I've had enough' attitude, but also empathize with ALL innocent people that are affected by this...

Might I politely suggest that you get a Jewish friend and ask for their opinion on this little dust up?
