Israel launches preemptive strike against Iran

I was wrong. I figured Trumps base would be lock step with him no matter what. But I guess many of them draw the line at starting a world war. That's comforting I guess

I'm more -pro "sitting this one out" than the alternative. That said, another country doing a lot of the work does seem to make it the time to act if there is ever a time.

My stance is we should let it ride for now.

Why doesn't the Afghan War count as a loss?

At no point during our occupation were we in serious danger of being driven out of the country and we were able to establish a democratically elected government that was stable for years. If we were still there that government would be in power. We did a poor job of transitioning that power to the citizens of the country though and now they are back in the hands of the group we tried to eradicate.

Like I said we won the war but lost the peace.

Things with Iran are shaping up as too similar for comfort to why we went to war against Iraq in 2003. In 2003, Netanyahu warned Hussein was developing nuclear weapons. Hussein had what he needs to produce atomic centrifuges in the size of washing machines. Today he says Iran has atomic weapons, prompting Trump to say he doesn't care what Gabbard has to say otherwise. After millions of our tax dollars pay to secure National Intelligence, Trump values the advice of Netanyahu more. But like last time with Bush, Americans won't mind if no nuclear weapons are ever found in Iran. Iran has always been bad and against America.

God forbid if military plans are being made at the Pentagon on how to best invade Iran. But may be popular to do with the majority of Americans as the right thing to in response to an epic domestic or foreign massive terrorist or military attack blamed on Iran in retaliation.

While most of Iran's neighbor Pakistan's energy reserves are believed too costly to exploit, it is interesting that it was allowed to develop nuclear weapons with nobody saying no, you can't. It is estimated that Pakistan has 170 nuclear warheads. Iran should have followed Pakistan in learning how that is done without major opposition from Israel. I guess it starts with Iran not ever referring to Israel as a wild dog that needs to be wiped off from the face of the earth.

By the way, did Israel ever threaten to blow up Iran from off the face of the earth by using nuclear weapons it supposedly has? If Israel possesses nuclear weapons, then it should use them as its own bunker blasters to get rid of the rest of Iran's nuclear program believed to be lodged 300 ft. underground in a mountain. However, a number of people would be sure to point out that the area should not have to deal with nuclear fallout. The U. S. bunker blasters are preferable. But there is a problem. Scott Ritter says the bunker blasters will be like firing a bunch of caps on a sidewalk. They won't be able to penetrate. It may be another long war.

None of this is gonna matter because Mossad just assassinated the Army Chief of Iran, Ali Shademani. There isn't anyone left to bomb, ha.

They've basically taken out all of the top brass of Iran and honestly it's hilarious. Mossad knew they would all congregate in this secret base - did the initial attack that killed several key military personnel, waited for the remaining leaders to congregate, and killed them. It's seriously like from Star Trek where Khan lures all the admiralty into one spot because knows that's their protocol. The comments I saw were gold:

"Did Israel build the mountain the secret base was in to lure them there?"

"Mossad is so entrenched at this point I wouldn't be shocked if the Ayatollah came out as Khamenei Goldstein working as an Israeli agent this whole time."

"Supreme Leader: Hey, you, come here. You're now in charge of the army. What is your name?

Uh...Nota. Nota, sir.

Supreme Leader: Nota what? This is your official swearing in I must know your full name.

Nota: Nota...Israeli.

Supreme Leader: You must be a cunning soldier, Nota. The rest of our leadership group has been taken out one by one, but here you are, you persist. That's exactly the type of leadership we need right now. Let me introduce you to my current chief of staff, Mossad Al-Infiltrati."

If regime change is the goal, I'm 100% out.

The question is, what about night of bunker busters in the mountains? Should we or should we not?
Trump and U.S. intelligence appear at odds over Iran's nuclear progress
U.S. intelligence stands by its opinion that Iran has a large stockpile of enriched uranium but isn't close to creating a weapon. Trump said Wednesday that a weapon is “a few weeks” away.

Trump's nuclear attack 'doomsday plane' arrives in Washington

A U.S. Air Force "Doomsday Plane" arrived at Joint Base Andrews Tuesday night, fueling speculation of a potential U.S. role in the escalating Israel-Iran crisis.

The E-4B Nightwatch aircraft landed at the military facility in suburban Washington, D.C., as speculation grows over potential U.S. military action in Iran.

Newsweek has contacted the Pentagon for comment by email.

Why It Matters

The timing of the E-4B's deployment comes amid heightened tensions as President Donald Trump is reported to be inching closer to ordering military strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities. While the White House hasn't commented on the aircraft's latest movement, social media users are speculating it signals potential military readiness from the United States.

What To Know

The E-4B "Nightwatch,"dubbed the "Doomsday Plane" is a militarized Boeing 747. It serves as the National Airborne Operations Center and is a key component of the National Military Command System for the president, the secretary of defense and the joint chiefs of staff.

In a national emergency or loss of ground command, the aircraft "provides a highly survivable command, control and communications center to direct U.S. forces, execute emergency war orders, and coordinate actions by civil authorities," the U.S. Air Force said.

It was used during the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The use of an atypical callsign—"ORDER01" instead of the usual "ORDER6"—fueled speculation about the nature of its current mission.

The Trump administration told us that Iran was days away from having a nuclear bomb. That was their whole reasoning for getting involved. Now they say they'll make a decision on if they're going to take military action in two weeks. Which is it?

Serious question. If we do bomb Iran will it be that different than Clinton bombing Iraq? As in, is there any legitimate concern over having ground troops in the region or would it just be us leveling whatever we want to and calling it a day?

Iraq had a population of 22 million in 1998 with a standing army of ~430k troops and no air force and no tanks or armor as the Gulf war by Bush 1 had destroyed the vast majority of it

There has not been an ongoing conflict that has weakened the Iranian military like Iraq faced after the 1st Gulf War

Iran currently has the 9th largest standing army on the planet with ~910k 610k active and 300+k reservist. The largest army of any Middle Eastern county

They have a Navy that has Destroyers, frigates, and 20+ submarines

They have an air force with ~500 aircraft

They have 2000+ ballistic missiles with range to hit all of Europe and most of Asia

They have ~1800 tanks

300 helicopters

~2500 mobile artillery units

~500 armored personnel carriers and troop fighting vehicles

They also have a population of 92 million people

They also control the shipping lanes of 25% of the entire Earth oil supply

This would be the largest country / military attacked by the US since Vietnam and they are bigger than Vietnam was

Fools errand to compare 1998 Iraq with 2025 Iran

The first thing they would do is shut down the strait of Hormuz and oil prices would go up 200-400% overnight
