ICE

It's also targeting:

The memo claims such efforts will focus on those who are involved “in the commission of war crimes, extrajudicial killings, or other serious human rights abuses … [and] naturalized criminals, gang members, or, indeed, any individuals convicted of crimes who pose an ongoing threat to the US”.

Where do you think they're headed with that?

With their focus already on revoking green cards for incredibly minor law violations, it is far from a stretch to anticipate that they will use the same standard for going after naturalized citizens. Even if you believe what the Trump administration says is their intent and focus (and you would be an utter fool if you do), it's a very small leap to "naturalized citizens that commit any crime are an ongoing threat to the US" and get them out of here.

And then you have this....

See, here's the problem with the 'sky is falling' crowd (not including you in that) - according to them everything has been an emergency ever since Trump took office in 2016. I've got fatigue now, because what you are saying is important. When people claim the sky is falling for almost a decade you start to lose interest.

IF we start deporting naturalized citizens that have committed any crime en masse as a matter of policy, I'll be first in line to defend them.

To be clear, I don't like where any of this is going. I don't like Trump. I didn't vote for Trump either time. I actively donated to his political opponents. But he is the president now because of an overbalance of power (particularly in the media) towards the left during Obama's tenure. Now it's an over-correction to the right. We need less sensationalism in our media, more nuance in our conversations, and far more temperance in our responses because the next correction could flip the freaking boat over.

Thank you for recognizing your post was garbage.

I’m not really sure why you say the meme was garbage. It wasn’t, and @PF5 can correct me if I’m wrong, addressing the number of immigrants we take in but saying how we should welcome the ones that come here. At least that is how I took it.
My post was facts and numbers, not flowery language. Feel whatever way you want about it.

This paragraph is one of the best things I’ve read on this forum. Kudos.

According to Trump's proclamations/EOs, everything has been an emergency ever since he took office. He's controlling the power of the government by executive fiat. Finding that wholly unacceptable and protesting against it is far from taking a "sky is falling" attitude.

If he starts deporting naturalized citizens that have committed any crime in mass as a matter of policy, your defense of them will already be too damned late to do any good.

Your claim of an overbalance of power towards the left during Obama's tenure is nonsense....particularly when it comes to the immigration issue.

Temperance and toleration in the face of intemperance and intolerance of those in power results in the eventual dominance of those intolerable ideologies. Popper's paradox.

Complacency in the face of authoritarian governments is complicity. A frog in the pot of warm water saying you'll wait until the water is boiling to agree that there is a problem. Nothing more.

And, of course, there is our "libertarian" again laughing at your concerns about a big overreaching federal government that has lost the checks and balances that made our republic strong. Harming the rights of individuals? Libertarians are ok with that, right?

1 kidnapping and deportation of a naturalized citizen should concern you enough to defend them. If you're ok with 1, there's no reason you wouldn't be ok with 1000.

What specific rights of citizens have been harmed?

As for EO’s , I’ve been clear that I am not a fan. But I also and not going to be hypocritical and ignore this is not new.

Due process. Birthright cizitenship. Literally in our constitution.

Just 2 off the top of my head. I'm sure you're going to come up with some inane rebuttal to that. Keep your head in the sand as long as you can. I hope it works out for you.

If a citizen doesn’t receive due process that is wrong and needs to be rectified? Where has this occurred?

Birthright citizenship? I believe the issue the Trump administration is arguing is that there is not specific language about illegals having anchor babies getting automatic citizenship. Language in constitution is open to debate. Although certainly historical precedence is not on Trump’s side.

ICE and these deportations are weird and hateful, but it is even more disgusting as it's been used to create a distraction for wealthy tax cut bill that will expedite America to the gilded age. It's a magician move, the left hand looks busy so you don't see the right hand pulling the card up his sleeve.

Medicare, Medicaid and Food Stamps save lives.

ICE is bad, but it's just the distraction, It's like none of you watched what happened with gay marriage in the 2000's.

The fact that you had the gall to ask that question in this thread full of examples is all that needs to be said about you.

If you think what is happening with the checks and balances and roles of the branches of government is not new, you have either buried your head in the sand or your cult has overwhelmed you with cognitive dissonance.

And yea, sure the concern about EOs is "hypocritical" and "not new." That doesn't seem like a biased, cult-like response at all.

In fairness, you entered the thread called "ICE" not "most sucky thing the government is doing at the moment." It is possible to have more than one concern with the actions of our government at the moment.

I ask for an example so I can attempt to understand your point and you cannot come up with one? Got it.

Everyone here should be afforded due process, not just citizens. That's the whole point of a bunch of this. And Im guessing there are a few citizens caught up in all this, mostly because of the administrations lack of regard for due process in the first place.

And using "anchor babies" as a term. That's a little bigoted don't you think?

You: Show me an example
Steross: This thread has a ton of them
You: So you can't show me anything

Due process is for all persons in the US. But you knew that, which is why you're specifying "citizens".

You're right that language is open to debate, sort of like "A well regulated militia"...
