Ump having a rough one today..both teams have a legit gripe
Thought Kenny should have gotten a little more upset when Hasler got called backUmp having a rough one today..both teams have a legit gripe
At some point they are going to run into one. You have to be able to be able to give up 3 runs every once in a while and still win.Welp saw that one coming…sadly when you feel the need to pitch perfectly it was going to happen. Offense refuses to help her
I'd love to see a game where they don't chase pitches that are off the plate and attack pitches in the zone. The scouting report for most of our hitters (Godwin, Edwards, Delgadillo for sure) has to be to throw it just off the plate and let them make weak contact and get themselves out. Some of these players would be much better if they were expected to hit with discipline.Postgame…coach admits we have an offensively challenged lineup.
Said Meylan pitched well..just wish she had one pitch back. It was a rise ball she didn’t execute. Too many weak outs, not enough loud outs.
This team is what it is at this point. Biggest fear is being placed in a OU regional…which is real. Collegiate athletics looking for a reason for a bedlam postseason matchup. If not regionals..we’ll be paired with them for a potential super regional. Either way, I don’t expect this team will be back in OKC
This team is what it is…don’t think they fix this team until the offseason.I'd love to see a game where they don't chase pitches that are off the plate and attack pitches in the zone. Agree. But I don't think its a personnel issue, its a coaching issue. They can go recruit whoever they want, but until there is a clear expectatiion for what is expected at the plate, it will be more of the same. This team is what it is…don’t think they fix this team until the offseason.
I think it’s a little of both. There’s some immaturity on the team and it shows. This team has some youth. Meylan isn’t Kilfoyl but even Kilfoyl had way more help than Meylan has and it’s not close. I’ll say it…Kilfoyl had Kelly Maxwell, another AA to piggyback off of. And when Maxwell left…Kilfoyl had ivy until she got hurt. Hadhoot has been a disappointment from New Mexico. I think the jump has been way too big for her. Meylan is a legit top 5-10 pitcher in the nation. She doesn’t have the same help Kilfoyl, Maxwell, elish, etc have had unfortunatelyAgree. As good as Meylan is, she's not quite to the Kilfoyl/Traitor level, and it shows in games like this. Great pitching has masked a lot of things for this program and this year Meylan can't quite shoulder the entire load. Nor should she be expected to.
Agree completely. I think Kenny has a bit of a catch 22 to deal with, too. The coaching staff needs a bad cop. He's clearly not that guy and hasn't been.I think it’s a little of both. Neither had the burden ruby currently shoulders and she was no scrub at Washington. She was an AA there too. I can’t fault ruby at all. Aycock and Kutz have let her down. Crandall has a knee injury that will likely get corrected in the offseason.
The coaching is a problem as well. I think the youth of the staff is showing this season. As much as youth can be good in terms of energy and ideas, it can be a detriment due to lack of experience. It’s a staff that looks completely lost including the head coach. The constant flip flopping of the lineup. The quick hook with some players and giving a long leash to others. Kenny has some Josh Holliday in him in that regard and it’s concerning.
I don’t think they need to get a new team through the portal. However they do need a couple players with experience and leadership qualities. I do think you need to recruit over aycock and Kutz. If there is a couple premier position players in the portal, need to grab a couple.
The offseason will definitely be interesting…I definitely think they’ll be some serious reflecting going on in regards to the approach of the players. I’m interested to see what happens to shippy. Part of me thinks he’ll ride the ship( no pun intended ) with her. Same with Eberle…Agree completely. I think Kenny has a bit of a catch 22 to deal with, too. The coaching staff needs a bad cop. I think the reason Kenny has built the program to what it is, is because he's a great guy and talented players want to play for him, they have fun and they win a lot. Kind of like he's the fun uncle that also teaches softball. The players almost always develop great relationships within the team and its a great family. BUT, its clear it lacks discipline. They're good people so its not 1980's Miami football lack of discipline, its more of....I'm going to do what I want at the plate or what I did in HS, he's not going to bench me. Credit to Kenny, Barfield, and now Eberle that they've been able to get pitchers that have that mental toughness that is not being developed in the program. Those pitchers are why the program has a streak of 5 straight trips to OKC. Ruby is the next in line but like you said, she can't do all herself.
He benched Godwin for jogging to first, and he should have. Today her response was to be even worse. Her body language was awful, just as bad as her ABs. Why? Possibly because she's wondering why she all of the sudden gets benched when others don't. So instead of a culture of taking accountability and responding, she just goes through the motions.
So, does he toughen up and demand more and maybe lose a little bit of the 'good feeling" that he's built? Or does he continue the same approach that has this team usually in the top 10 but still needing a major leap to be a national title contender?
The offseason will be interesting because in theory there will be a lot of experience coming back and only a few holes to fill. What does he do with Shippy? Does he get a couple of players that demand more of their teammates instead of coaches? Or, just do the same old thing?
Definitely not a top 25 team right nowNo more top 25…safe to say we don’t deserve to be in the rankings anymore
