Conference Realignment - What's next?

I wouldn’t go as far to say he has elevated the conference. Nothing alone or in the aggregate that has been added comes close to goon and Texass football brands. I do appreciate his proactive approach though.
From what he inherited he has absolutely elevated the league. He didn't start with OU and UT, he started with what Bowlsby left him. I don't see how you can argue that the Big 12 is not in an elevated position from where he started.

One thought: If Oregon and Washington leave, I think we see the Pac 12 merge with the MWC to avoid the $34 million exit fee for MWC schools. That is seriously going to block the pac 12 from adding schools in the short term and to stabilize themselves quickly. I think they are in big trouble.

They are talking about adding SMU, SDSU, and Tulane...

Yep. Sounds like they are really "trading up"

Funny hearing the chatter about SMU. Not that SMU is actually a religious institution, but the fact it has Methodist in the name...The Pac used to be horrified at the thought of adding a school that had any religious affiliation whatsoever. How the mighty have fallen.

Each School made $44MM here in the Big 12..With CU leaving and apparently no deal in sight w/ the Pac 9 they may have to leave just to survive!
Yep, the pressure is on. Plus, the $31.7 million number we get starting next year does not include playoff and bowl payouts or tier 3 revenue. Our revenue should be approaching $50 million/yr which would be better than what we have been getting with OU and Texas.

Can finally post this with it being real.

Actually, I believe it does include all tier 3 revenue.

The deal includes tier 3 rights, but the $31.7 million number does not include them. This article is a good rundown with them.

I feel like if we were to land Oregon, Washington and one other to make it an even 16 we would be solidified top 3 conference, even if the ACC were to stay in tact. It would be close but I’m going to use my bias card and call us top 3! Lol.
Yup. Oregon, Washington, Florida State, and Clemson are the only names not in the BIG/SEC. If we get UW and UO, we’re the clear cut Third, because ACC has some serious deadweight still straggling along while there aren’t any in the Big XII. The only perennial cellar dweller would be KU football and they might be decent this year.

I read that it was limited to a total of 14 teams, not 16. ESPN and Fox would have to sign off on any more than 14. I think we take Arizona soon (not my preferred choice) to further weaken the PAC. Then the others would want out. Oregon and Washington are worth a full share so ESPN and Fox would agree and that will be the end of Big 12 expansion for now and the end of the PAC as we know it. Yormark is a shrewd businessman.
