Conference Realignment - What's next?

Some smoke that Arizona to the Big 12 might happen next.

If so, would yall be ok with ASU and Utah or do we only take 2 more if it's Oregon and Washington?
I'd take ASU and UU no question. UA alone is probably the nail in the coffin but all 3 and the PAC is 110% dead, long live the Big 12 as a power conference. If we have a chance to sever the head now, DO IT. I would think UW and UO will eventually end up in the B1G, but if not let them learn that the hard way and we scoop them up demoralized when the B1G instead scavanges the ACC as is already rumored, then one way or another we can round out to 20 or more if needed with ACC teams who don't get a B1G or $ec invite.

My most likely guess is UW and UO to BiG, then they turn to ND/UVA/UNC/DUKE whoever accepts first to round out. $ec takes Clemson and FSU, maybe Miami and one other, then the Big12 takes best of the rest, I'd say NCST, VT and if needed louisville and I guess Pitt? No we won't be on the same level as the 2 big dogs, but that's fine, at least we won't suffer the Mountain West fate Oregon St and WAZZU seem destined to befall.

I would prefer ASU, UO and UW. That gives the Big 12 a presence in each of those states. We already have BYU so we don’t need Utah. I prefer ASU over UA because of personal reasons but it also impacts the Phoenix market more than UA, IMO. They just finished a renovation of their stadium, too. I would like to have one California team but I don’t see that happening unless we end up with three 20 team conferences when the ACC media package comes up for renewal and they get plucked.

I think Oregon and Washington are a must grab even if they leave. The numbers will be far greater with those 2 teams than all the others. Plus, I think you make them sign the GOR with an exit penalty and tell them to take a hike if they don’t agree.

I think we take Arizona. If Oregon and Washington don’t want to come then I say stop at the wildcats. This puts the big 12 at 14.

Wait for the ACC to crumble, add Virginia tech, Georgia tech, Louisville, Nc state, Pitt, and Syracuse

If Oregon and Washington are willing to sign and join by end of week after the media deal is announced and shown to be garbage, then take them to get to 16. If they don't, turn right to ASU and Utah and take them instead. Kill the PAC one way or another. They won't survive having to add SDSU and Boise to get to 8 total, and God knows who else to get to 10.

They won’t be able to add San Diego State. Who would pay their $34M exit fee. The only way that happens is if the PAC and the MWC merge.

I haven't seen this posted, but the numbers that the Pac 12 are looking at are...$20MM per team and everything streamed w/ Apple TV. There are incentives for each school in the subscriptions reach certain levels, and if UOWA leave the deal is off....

Those are harsh #'s...If you are AZ, UO, WA...how can you turn down the Big 12 and miss out about $20MM a yr in revenue? Seems like a no brainer to me but what do I know.

Oregon and Washington will ultimately end up in the B1G or Big 12, they're too big not to. They can probably find the bandwidth to wait it out in purgatory a few years (max time until ACC GOR is up) and see where their final landing spot is. I could see a far outside chance AZ is looked at by the B1G, but far from any guarantee, whereas the Big 12 is just waiting for you to sign. If you're AZ or anyone else in the remnants of the PAC, you'd be stupid to not be begging the Big 12 to take you in. Unless you're super excited about the upcoming trips to Laramie, Reno, Fresno, and Albuquerque as you strive to win the MW and make the Poinsettia Bowl each year.

Greg Swain says it, so it is probably some fantasy
yeah, i'm hesitant to use anything he says, but it isn't just him. he is just a drop in an ever growing number of sources that are pointing that AZ is leaving . Lots of Smoke...no fire yet.

Their board of trustees apparently voted unanimously last night to leave the Pac 12 and the Board of Regents sched a previously unplanned meeting for this morning.

And rumors are the meeting is for after when the PAC 12 presents the TV deal revenue sharing numbers which right now is rumored at $20 million per school with Apple + and Amazon the leading bidders for the TV rights which would lead to most games being streamed and not on major networks .
