Conference Realignment - What's next?

@CptnQuirk
I like the TransAmerican Conference. I was thinking the Cross American Conference. I definitely think we should get away from numbers. If the Big ten had not gone to the B1G branding I might say just go to Big Conference. Maybe Big American Conference. I like something with abbreviations that are easy to say. The BAC would be perfect for our upcoming revival over the next decade.

Nothing with “Trans” please don’t bud light my football…

Probably more fair to say the 3rd conference on the top tier. The 2nd tier is everybody else. Once the ACC implodes that is.
ACC is clearly B tier. Even in their current state. Clemson being down showed how barren the cupboard was for the rest of the conference. Tack on making less money and their is no relevant metric they are better than the Big 12 in.

S tier: SEC and B1G
A tier: Big 12
B tier: ACC
...everyone else.

Im trying to think of some stuff in other sports. Like acronyms like UEFA or NASCAR. Or like the Premiere Conference. I don’t know. Everything will sound weird at first I suppose. But the branding of this thing will be very important.

As long as ACC still has Clemson, FSU & Miami they are going to be viewed as ahead of the Big 12 IMO. I mean how many NC’s do those three have in the last 40-ish years? 10+? But once they are gone there will only be three major conferences left. Big 12 will be a clear third but they will be on that top tier. They will have big tv contracts and those networks will make sure they are separated from the rest.

One thing not mentioned yet is these 8 additions bring 2 great (AZ and ASU) and some other solid baseball programs to the conference, plus rounds us out to an even number so everyone can be in the conference tourney.

This is one of the best articles I have seen on the ACC GOR. If accurate makes me think we are sitting tight until 2030ish. This paints a picture of a 1/2 BILLION $ buyout PER SCHOOL that only goes down by $35.7MM/yr if each yr is proportional to the whole.

If rumors are true that Disney is looking to unload ESPN and Fox/CBS/NBC are questioning the $ behind new B1G deal, I can’t see them ponying up for anyone except ND/Clemson/FSU and maybe 1 or 2 tagalongs (NC, VA, Miami, Louisville). ESPN has the ACC on lockdown for $23MM-$25MM per school.

If ESPN is truly 2/3s of Big12 $ then they basically bought 20% of the PAC for $13.5MM per school per yr if they agreed to pay their full share to the Big12 for each school. Not too risky of a proposition.

Now flip that to the ACC where they are roughly paying $360MM per yr for the entire conference. If you moved 4 of those teams at full SEC shares and some numbers say that’s $75MM per school then ESPN would be buying 4 schools at $300MM per yr. That’s paying 83% of your current deal for 100% of the ACC to get only 4 schools.

This latest movement was laid out once Yormark extended our deal. ESPN and Fox killed the PAC when we signed that deal and Yormark knew between us and the PAC that whoever signed 1st the other was DOA bc ESPN and Fox could pick up the majority of the PAC at a steal for what they would have to pay the entire conf.

Now that the dust has settled a little bit, what do yall think about WSU and Oregon St? I feel bad for their fans, but I'm not sure I feel bad enough that I'd want them to get an invite.
Let 'em rot. Don't feel bad for any PAC team left behind. They had their chances to poach the Big XII and turned their collective noses up. Enjoy the MWC. It's just business; nothing personal...except maybe a little. Who am I kidding...the schadenfreude is strong.
