I am still a conservative. My principles haven’t changed. The Republican Party has. Unchained idjits.

But of course. He has a layman's understanding of these things. Not that you necessarily need to be a scientist to be head of the DHS. But you need to be an effective administrator who creates an environment where the scientists and healthcare professionals can do their jobs, and not a walking, talking Dunning-Kruger totem.Go up, ut it would also increase the chance of a mutation that can infect humans.
Let good scientists do the science and doctors do the health care. But of course. He has a layman's understanding of these things. She's an idiot. #BiologyFacts..? Haha. Nope.
You should have read the thread, “parasites naturally evolve to less deadly forms because dead hosts equals dead parasites.” Please go handle dead animals and get back to me.She's an idiot. #BiologyFacts..? Haha. Nope.
I'm guessing she's antivax, and has a bunch of RFK retweets.

I mean she isn't 100% wrong. Viruses, parasites etc do often evolve to not kill their host so they can continue to spread, but I do not think its an absolute. Especially for parasites, there are definitely some that intentionally use the death of the host as part of their life cycle. That said, it's a stupid position for her to take, that all those things are therefore not deadly and treat them as not dangerous. You should have read the thread, “parasites naturally evolve to less deadly forms because dead hosts equals dead parasites.” Please go handle dead animals and get back to me.
No, she's 100% wrong. Measles is just as deadly now as it was 100 years ago, 200 years ago. The difference is we vaccinate against it now and enough people are vaccinated that we no longer have epidemics and wipe out large segments of the population. Also, we have better treatments now than we did 100 years ago for people who get infections. But, the flip side of the evolutionary coin, bacteria are evolving antibiotic resistance, which makes them more deadly, not less. Multi-drug resistant bacteria are a real problem. And as I said, infectious agents can easily be spread from dead hosts. In areas of the US where Hantavirus is prevalent there are signs on hiking trails warning people not to approach or handle dead animals.I mean she isn't 100% wrong. Wasn't saying she was right for any specific disease and definitely wasnt saying vaccines or normal treatment was unnecessary. I was referencing a common theory that I thought had been proven but apparently had not been (see below NIH article from 2023).No, she's 100% wrong. You go down this list the reason these diseases aren't as deadly isn't because of evolutionary biology, but because of vaccination. And the idiotic antivax movement is trying to undo this.

All I know is don't have an emergency optical issue or you may go blind waiting for services.
