2024 Presidential Election

Bezos stepped in and prevented the editorial board of his paper from endorsing Harris.....250,000 people cancelled their subscription when that became public...

Here is how Trump shows his appreciation

Walz: A paper said, 'this guy might be the poorest guy to run for VP.' I'm not poor but I lived on a teacher's salary. Thank god I was in a union. Look, I didn't expect to get rich but I didn't take an oath of poverty and I sure as hell don't want someone like Trump crapping on my job

So I sit here scrolling and seeing how OK Republicans are first pumping about how many more Republicans have done early voting in person compared to Democrats. I have a few observations/thoughts.
1) People do have jobs. Sure we get time to vote on election day but what are these tens of thousands of Republicans occupations that they can just sit in line for hours on a normal working day?
2) These stats only include in person voting. There's an entire segment of mail in voters this doesn't include and of course election day voters
3) In 2020 Trump urged people to vote on election day and in person, then when the Rs didn't get the bump from mail in totals that Ds got, they cried "rigged!". Is the same thing going to happen where they get most of their votes in early and then there's a large number of Kamala votes cast on election day? I certainly don't expect there to be enough to flip OUR state but I just feel like they're setting up that story to claim cheating.
4) "Republican" ≠ Trump vote...

I don't blame you. How can evangelicals be for Trump now? Probably the no. 1 reason why they were for Trump was because he claimed to be pro-life and would put on the Supreme Court judges the same way. As they desired Roe vs Wade was overturned. But what happened? Evangelicals got passed extreme anti-about laws. In backlash, states one by one have been voting to establish rights to abortion. To them a good response from Trump would be to support a nationwide ban on abortion, but he isn't doing it.

Why should they trust Trump as a Christian, anyway? From all the awful things he has said and done, he has referred to himself as a Christian but in at least one speech, he pointed to himself and said, "I'm not a Christian". He has such a strange viewpoint on asking God for forgiveness that he thinks he doesn't need to because he doesn't make mistakes.

I have no answers. I hate the spiritualization of support for Trump and I hate wrapping the cross in the American flag. Neither are remotely Christian or American and certainly neither represent my faith, principles or values.

Jesus gave us five commandments in the New Testament:

1. Love God with all your heart, mind, body and soul.
2. Love each other.
3. Treat others as you want them to treat you.
4. Forgive others or the Father will not forgive you.
5. Spread the Gospel of salvation to the world.

When I look at the American evangelical church right now I don’t see those five commandments. I see… something else. Something that Jesus wouldn’t recognize. Something that he would tie cords into whips and chase out of the temple. Bibles with the U.S. Constitution in them? That’s idolatry. Forcing them on school children? Unconstitutional and unconscionable.

I’m tired. I just want this to be over.

Jesus told us EXACTLY what he thinks about this

Jesus Criticizes the Religious Leaders

23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.[a] 3 So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach. 4 They crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden.

5 “Everything they do is for show. On their arms they wear extra wide prayer boxes with Scripture verses inside, and they wear robes with extra long tassels.[b] 6 And they love to sit at the head table at banquets and in the seats of honor in the synagogues. 7 They love to receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi.’[c]

8 “Don’t let anyone call you ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers and sisters.[d] 9 And don’t address anyone here on earth as ‘Father,’ for only God in heaven is your Father. 10 And don’t let anyone call you ‘Teacher,’ for you have only one teacher, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you must be a servant. 12 But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

13 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people’s faces. You won’t go in yourselves, and you don’t let others enter either.[e]

15 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross land and sea to make one convert, and then you turn that person into twice the child of hell[f] you yourselves are!

16 “Blind guides! What sorrow awaits you! For you say that it means nothing to swear ‘by God’s Temple,’ but that it is binding to swear ‘by the gold in the Temple.’ 17 Blind fools! Which is more important—the gold or the Temple that makes the gold sacred? 18 And you say that to swear ‘by the altar’ is not binding, but to swear ‘by the gifts on the altar’ is binding. 19 How blind! For which is more important—the gift on the altar or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 When you swear ‘by the altar,’ you are swearing by it and by everything on it. 21 And when you swear ‘by the Temple,’ you are swearing by it and by God, who lives in it. 22 And when you swear ‘by heaven,’ you are swearing by the throne of God and by God, who sits on the throne.

23 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens,[g] but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things. 24 Blind guides! You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel![h]

25 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence! 26 You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish,[i] and then the outside will become clean, too.

27 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs—beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people’s bones and all sorts of impurity. 28 Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.

29 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you build tombs for the prophets your ancestors killed, and you decorate the monuments of the godly people your ancestors destroyed. 30 Then you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would never have joined them in killing the prophets.’

31 “But in saying that, you testify against yourselves that you are indeed the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Go ahead and finish what your ancestors started. 33 Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell?

34 “Therefore, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers of religious law. But you will kill some by crucifixion, and you will flog others with whips in your synagogues, chasing them from city to city. 35 As a result, you will be held responsible for the murder of all godly people of all time—from the murder of righteous Abel to the murder of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you killed in the Temple between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 I tell you the truth, this judgment will fall on this very generation.

So far Dems have been turning out more low propensity (first and second time voters) than Rs so those Republican votes are just people switching from voting election day to voting early.

NEW via @annabower, @benjaminwittes: At a church in rural Georgia, attendees were informed that they are battling a “spiritual war” against election fraud.

Then they were told how to fight back: show up en masse to pressure local officials to withhold certification of the election.

Pastor is former faculty at ORU and Taylor University which means the church is, you guessed it, evangelical.

Disgusting.

That's my thought too and that's the driver for my 3rd bullet point. They're not going to see a massive increase on election day and then claim it was rigged, the same way they didn't do mail in for 2020 and when their mail in didn't give them a bump they cried "rigged".

I voted early & qualify for your 4th bullet point. Still registered R just for the hope that this Trump storm will pass...
Yeah, my wife and I are in that 4th bullet too but we did mail in this year to just avoid all the commotion.

We know they’re gonna yell rigged….they already have…and tailor the argument and supposed “evidence” to whatever the results are.

The only possible “rigged” claims-proof result would be an undeniable mandate sized Harris victory. We aren’t going to see that and they probably have a rigged claim already set up for that eventuality as well.

2024 is going to be as bad or worse than 2020.

I hope I am wrong. I don’t think I am.

Does anyone (even our local Trumpers) seriously see him losing and being like- you know what? Good job, congratulations on a hard fought win, good luck America! He's absolutely going to claim it was stolen again if he loses.

Oh, he's definitely going to be a sore loser. If he loses. I also predict cities on fire if he wins. Which he probably will. Either way, I predict pandemonium. Brace yourselves.

Yeah. I'm hoping for something like Georgia and North Carolina not going his way quick so the outcome is never in doubt. But he could lose Alabama by a million votes and still say it was rigged.

Wait, what if Alabama Mississippi Arkansas governors get together and flip it for Harris and then use that as evidence of voter fraud to get Harris out of office?

I figure I'm screwed no matter what. Neither side seems to have a solid grasp on economics.
House and Senate control are very important.
If you believe the betting odds —- Senate appears nearly a lock for GOP (81% for GOP).
But House odds are very fluid. A month ago it was over 70% for Dems. A week ago 55% for GOP. Now it is flipped back again and 51% for Dems.
