Heard that as well. He went on to say he’s heard Daniels and Oliver will stay as well and supposedly the defensive scheme will be changing a bit. I’m a little skeptical about the scheme changing but who knows. Good coaches study their weakness, how teams attacked them and find answers. Time will tell!
Nardo is pretty sharp. They tweaked the defense in the 3rd quarter all year. They probably found a variation that was consistently successful.

Hey, I hope I’m wrong. It just seemed odd that he wouldn’t answer. But who knows🤷🏻‍♂️
I can understand a high profile player keeping things open when opportunities are abundant. I'm not sure how NIL offers arrive and how much correspondence he's getting right now, but he's the Doak Walker award winner that was a relative unknown before this season (outside of OSU). I'm sure he's processing a lot of stuff right now. Imagine when you were that age, but you had people hitting you with several hundred thousand or million dollar offers to switch schools, and imagine it wasn't just one or two of those, but 30 of them...

I'd like to imagine myself staying loyal to OSU in such a scenario, but that's easier to say when I don't have that kind of money on the table in very risky career that could end on any single play. The way the NFL is going, I can absolutely understand stud RBs trying to get more cash in college, because its probably the safer route in their careers at this point.

I haven't kept up with the nuances of NIL, but are players allowed to have agents to assist with any of this currently?

One of the things we have going is that OSU has built an offense around Ollie. That may not be the case at a different school. Here he is the guy and will have ample opportunity to showcase his talents for the next level where draft position can enhance him financially. So even thought the short term money may not be quite equal, longer term it may be better.

With OU and Texas gone, OSU has a great chance to make the 12 team playoff. Ollie, in a balanced offense and a good offensive line could go off for a lot of yards and TDs.

Depends on how much money we're talking about. The RB market in the NFL is pretty bad right now. Bijan Robinson (unanimous best RB in a while) is getting less than $6mil/yr on a 4yr contract, and obviously isn't guaranteed to play beyond that timeframe depending on injuries. Lesser RBs are signing 4-yr rookie contracts for closer to $1-2mil/yr.

The average NFL RB career is less than 3 years.

I can imagine a scenario where higher profile RBs can actually enhance their career payout and longevity by staying in college an extra year. A guy like Chuba Hubbard is probably a good example where he has some really big games and big stats, but maybe doesn't profile as a Day 1 draft pick for whatever reason. Guys like that can probably earn more by transferring to a bigger program and earning a bigger NIL deal than they would with a Day 2-4 NFL rookie contract, and probably have less risk of injury playing in college vs NFL.

All possibly true. Not knowing NIL deals here or elsewhere and where or how draft status may be effected leave this up to wild speculation.

Exactly. Same thing that’s going on with Dillon Gabriel.

I apologize for the thread tangent but didn’t we do this w Knowles as well? Yr 1 was the scheme he brought and then after that we “frankensteined” his scheme w input from our existing coaches to better fit the players and conference.

“We” didn’t do anything to his scheme. He did.
“On January 29, 2018, Knowles was hired as the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State under head coach Mike Gundy,[3][4] and held the position through the 2021 season. During Knowles' time at Oklahoma State, the Cowboys' defense saw significant statistical improvements. After regressing in areas like opponent points per play and opponent yards per play during Knowles' first season,[5][6] Oklahoma State's defense improved in each of Knowles' next three seasons.[7][8][9][10][11][12] For the 2021 season, Knowles' defense finished top ten in areas such as opponent points per play,[13] opponent points per game,[14]opponent yards per play,[15] opponent yards per game,[16]opponent yards per rush attempt,[17] opponent rushing yards per game,[18] team sack percentage,[19] and sacks per game.[20]

Classic Gundy. Crediting others for team successes. For someone who makes $7 mil a year be should do a lot better job of taking all the credit for himself.

Why would Gundy take credit? He admits that he doesn’t mess with the defenses. He does have input on offenses.
