2023-2024 Portal Thread

right now I'm feeling pretty confident that we have a 50% chance of seeing him in an OSU uniform next season...

Important thing to remember is that there’s extremely little anyone here can do. That young man will make up his mind. We can merely hope he’s on our side moving forward. I’d like to think he will be.

I think he’s gone.
I think so, too.

It's easy for fans to believe that players are as committed to their favorite college institution as they are.. especially one who was on the Heisman trophy list. I, and all other OSU fans, want to believe such a player won't chase the money. Reality is.. there's absolutely nothing to suggest he'll return. Ollie himself surely hasn't suggested such. Ollie's answer to the question suggests he won't return.. otherwise, he would've said so. And that's why I believe he's gone. I hope that's not the case, but, I mean, it should be self-evident... he's gone.

I wouldn't blame Ollie for chasing the big-time money.. a figure I'm sure OSU simply cannot compete with.

Normally I would agree with this, but wouldn’t it have happened by now?

Cayden Green is no where near as valuable as Ollie and he was poached quick. Same thing happened with Jabar last year.

He most definitely can get more elsewhere, but there is something that is keeping him here. Staying for a 10 win season? Not worth missing out on the bag.

If he has a plan for how he wants to announce it, why would he waste that by answering that question? I took his answer as I don't want this decision to come out in a random interview. I think it was more of a non-answer than he doesn't want to be here. But I guess it's just open to interpretation. I just don't see him leaving. He's the bell cow here and already has all the Heisman hype he needs going into next season. Transferring doesn't change that. He's either the best player in the country or he isn't.

He was very evasive. Why not just say “yeah, I’m coming back”? He’s working on a deal with a blue-blood.
Just my opinion. From all indications he is practicing. The interview was after practice on the practice field. If he were leaving for a bag he wouldn’t risk it by practicing w his “former” team. Again. Just my opinion.

Although that’s possible, but why would he be participating in bowl prep? He could very easily sit out of the bowl game/practice to prevent injuries. He has nothing more to prove other than wanting to compete with his team. Regardless, this is a joke that we have to wait for announcements every offseason. College football will never be the same. Just a sad reality.

In this era of college football, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he goes elsewhere. As a runningback, he probably recognizes his career lifespan and wants to maximize his earnings as much as possible.

That being said, the coaching staff appears to be leaning towards him returning. Otherwise, they've been caught with their pants down if they lose Gordon, Nixon & Collins. That runningback room will be looking pretty bare and very inexperienced.

Also, from a fundraising standpoint, it is possible that Gordon has been told to delay his announcement if he's returning. His ambiguity will likely raise more money for NIL for his teammates. If he announces his return, donations are likely going to decline quickly.

Maybe by not announcing, he is helping build the OSU NIL kitty by getting more donors to pony up. I love animal references.

But by announcing he’s staying he would help OSU recruiting especially in regards to a Portal QB. The sooner he announce one way or the other the better.
