Republican Rep. Greg Steube claimed on a podcast that presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis threatened to primary members of Congress if they endorsed former President Donald Trump over him.

Steube, who represents Florida's 17th Congressional District, relitigated his apparent feelings of contempt for Florida's governor on Monday on Donald Trump Jr.'s podcast, "Triggered With Don Jr." The congressman, who previously endorsed Trump for president, said in April that DeSantis never responded to Steube's attempts to discuss political issues.

Adding to that on Trump Jr.'s podcast, Steube said he was excluded from briefings and press conferences with DeSantis whenever they were in his district.

"When he would come into town, they would exclude me from briefings," Steube said. "Hurricanes bearing down on my district, and they wouldn't even allow me to be a part of a press conference in my own district."

Adding to his list of grievances against DeSantis on the podcast, the congressman from Florida said he was miffed because DeSantis threatened to primary members of Congress who didn't endorse him.

"That is not how leaders operate," Steube said. "You don't operate by fear."

DeSantis entered the running against Trump and a slate of other Republican candidates on May 24 via a glitchy Twitter Spaces rollout where the feature repeatedly crashed, leaving DeSantis to later claim his announcement "broke the internet."

The Florida governor currently trails Trump by double-digits in national polls.

A spokesperson for DeSantis' campaign did not respond to Insider's request for comment.

“You’re gonna run against Donald Trump? You are going to get hurt and damaged, badly. That is the problem,” she said.

“So by the time Trump is done, we saw this before, 16 people, one after the next, fell off the stage. You’re gonna end up in the junkyard,” she continued. “You’re not gonna be in good shape for 2028. That’s just a fact. It’s not time to go into Toys ‘R’ Us, strap off the training wheels and take a spin around the aisles and see if it works out.”

Trump Flip Flops on the Disney & DeSantis Fued

The former president previously ripped the governor last month over the feud, claiming that a Disney-backed decision to leave Florida or a draw back on investments in the state would be “because of the Governor.”

“In the meantime, this is all so unnecessary, a political STUNT! Ron should work on the squatter MESS!” wrote Trump, who said Disney had “absolutely destroyed” the Florida governor.

Trump’s team later doubled down on the post in a press release titled “President Trump Is Always Right” on May 18. The former president, as recently as Thursday, also remarked on video about the “mess” of Disney and claimed that DeSantis could’ve worked something out with the company.

Donald Trump mocked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) over not putting a stop to “woke” Disney “long ago” weeks after the former president called his challenger’s feud with the company “all so unnecessary.”

Trump, in a Truth Social post, criticized Disney before taking aim at DeSantis, who has been in a feud with the company since its opposition of the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

“Disney has become a Woke and Disgusting shadow of its former self, with people actually hating it,” Trump wrote on Sunday. “Must go back to what it once was, or the ‘market’ will do irreparable damage. This all happened during the Governorship of ‘Rob’ DeSanctimonious. Instead of complaining now, for publicity reasons only, he should have stopped it long ago. Would have been easy to do - Still is!”

Trump’s attack comes as Disney, amid its ongoing war with the governor, recently called off its $1 billion plan for an expansion in Florida that would have brought in over 2,000 jobs to the area, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
