Nikki Haley lands endorsement from Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity PAC NPR

A conservative-leaning political action committee backed by the influential Koch network is endorsing Nikki Haley for the Republican presidential nomination.

The Americans for Prosperity super-PAC says Haley is best positioned to beat former President Donald Trump in the primary election and President Biden in the general election.

In a letter addressed to "Grassroots Leaders, Activists, and Interested Parties," Americans for Prosperity Action says it's throwing its support behind the former South Carolina governor and United Nations Ambassador.

The statement says the Republican party has been choosing "bad candidates who are going against America's core principles," and that Democrats are responding with what it calls "extreme policies."

Americans for Prosperity, or AFP, says it believes nearly three-quarters of Republican voters are ready to move on from Trump. That's despite the former president leading among Republicans by a wide margin in national and key primary-state polls.

The AFP statement notes though that Haley has moved into second place in multiple polls and promises to spend on new mail, TV and online ads backing her.

I just heard entitlements. Anyway, that means Republicans want to go after Medicaid, food stamps, Section 8, and so on. As Republicans see it, you're supposed to be personally responsible to take care of yourself without running to government for help. If you can't help yourself, then churches, private charities and food banks, are supposed to along with friends and relatives pitching in if needed.

That was my first thought - SS and Medicare are programs you pay into your entire working life, not entitlements. The fact is both parties have been stealing from them for decades to pay for other pet projects. IF that's what Haley meant she should have been more specific. Us old folks are pretty picky about the gubmint trying to keep the money WE paid in.

And you've got 11 states that tax your SS benefits, which is outrageous.

She’s not wrong. We need candidates (house, senate, and presidential) to put together plans now to insure long-term solvency of these programs. Anything less is irresponsible.
Corporate tax rates were up over 70% on profits when social security was introduced. It would take a Herculean effort to save it and keep the tax rate remarkably unchanged

Don’t you dare touch my Socisl
Security. Raise the top contribution rate, or find money in the bloated defense budget.
If we had any choice of where to place our retirement money when we started working it wouldn’t affect so many people. But since that wasn’t an option, how dare they act like they’re going to reduce our return on investment or eliminate it all together. It’s our money not theirs.

Here is the whole answer not just a half sentence.
The biggest disagreement I have with that is expanding Medicare Advantage.

??? Higher corporate tax rates do not affect social security.
Or are you implying we should change the law and increase corporate taxes to fund SS?

Billionaire Democratic Donor Reid Hoffman Donates to Nikki Haley

(Bloomberg) -- Billionaire Reid Hoffman gave $250,000 to a super political action committee supporting Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, according to an adviser for the LinkedIn Corp. co-founder.

Hoffman joins several other billionaires who have historically donated to Democrats, including JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Jamie Dimon and investor Bill Ackman, who have expressed support for the former South Carolina governor in recent weeks. Dmitri Mehlhorn, who advises Hoffman on politics, confirmed the donation, which was first reported by the New York Times.

Haley, a former United Nations ambassador, has gained support in recent weeks from major donors looking for a Republican alternative to former President Donald Trump, who currently leads the field by a wide margin.

Hoffman’s political team inquired if the super PAC, SFA Fund Inc., would accept money from them given Hoffman’s affiliation with Democrats and his ongoing support for Biden, Mehlhorn said in a statement. The group said it did not have a problem with the donation and is open to building a wide coalition, he added.

SFA Fund Inc. did not respond to a request for comment.

Hoffman was the 25th biggest donor in the 2020 election cycle, giving $14.6 million, according to OpenSecrets, all in support of Democratic candidates. This cycle, he’s given $759,600 to the Biden Victory Fund, which raises money for the president’s campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state parties. He’s also given $4 million to the Republican Accountability PAC, which has aired ads in Iowa urging voters to turn away from Trump.
