Who Should OSU Hire as Next Basketball Head Coach?

McDermott is way more possible than Self in my opinion and would be a home run. I just don't see it happening. The twitter post that said WKU players had already been addressed was a Kentucky journalist I think, so I put some credibility there. I really think they are working on some final term, or don't want to announce on Good Friday. The latter doesn't make a lot of sense to me though since games are being played tonight and the hire would get at least a few mentions to a broad audience.

Self is hard for me to comprehend but I'd love it. At the very least I hope the call was made. The fact that nothing, I mean nothing, is coming out of the AD's camp, office, school channels, etc, nothing from former or current WKU players on twitter which would have been everywhere had he told them he was leaving, tells me everything is still purely conjecture and scientific wild a$$ guesses. Could you imagine being in Chad's shoes if any of the stuff you've seen published was real and he saw the immediate outcry? Talk about being cut off at the knees.

That said, there is one other name that would be on my "home run" list and I can very easily understand why nothing is being said or announced yet. If we really have the money to even get Self's attention, we have plenty for the guy I still think it might be. But who knows.
I'm not sure on the money question myself. Yes, he would instantly skyrocket interest. It wouldn't even surprise me for season tickets to sell out. However, it still seems a big risk to think his presence would instantly generate enough revenue to cover his salary. Maybe I'm wrong.

He's been talking like this for a while and I thought it was just joking around, but Reagan Harris seems pretty convinced that Self is actually a possibility. Take it for whatever it is worth. IF (big if) this is true, it would definitely explain why things have been taking so long.

SLutz via text to his players: Hey guys, remember that little meeting we had yesterday? Forget it, I'm fully committed to the...the...oh, yeah Hilltoppers! See y'all Monday!

I call BS. The waiting has to be at most to hear from Schertz and/or McCollum before finalizing with Lutz. Besides, April 1 has no significance anymore since Boynton has already been fired.

He says some unusual things sometimes. I think I know who you are on X because you use the same pic.

Didn't McDermott just sign a contract extension?

LOL Yep!

Note: No idea of your gender, but it just made me think of this funny friends moment.

This is what happens when you get lawyers involved. What should have been one page and required 10 minutes now is 50 pages and takes weeks.

He did before the carousels really started. There is too much cloak and dagger and not enough response from the athletic office for me to believe anything right now. If we had a coach that could start today, why wouldn't we? Players to meet with, staffs to build, portal to dig into, HS recruits to talk to etc.

Should of been negotiated much lower or better yet fired for cause.

Schools shouldn't get suckered into signing contracts with huge buyouts, but that's a different topic.

To fire someone for cause, they have to violate a term of the contract. Why would a coach negotiate to an amount lower than that agreed to in a contract?

This is absolutely the most logical thing happening of all the scenarios out there so far. Schertz keeps winning, so we can't interview him yet to see if it's the right hire. ADCW has likely interviewed Lutz, and it sounds like he likes him. However, with this being his biggest hire to date, he probably wants to ensure that he gets the best man for the job. The program is in dead last. There is no risk that we'll be a worse team next year by waiting, and anyone saying otherwise is a chicken little. The longer this goes on, the better it is for OSU fans.

Based on who's left my guess is ADCW wants to interview Schertz, McDermott, and possibly Bill Self. If there was a real possibility of getting self, that likely would have already happened because his season is over. I think the real options are likely Schertz and Lutz. At this point, I think either Schertz would have to wow the pants off ADCW in the interview to get the job, or there is a legitimate red flag keeping from pulling the trigger on Lutz.

Depends on the terms of the buyout. You might take a lower overall payout to get the money in a shorter period of time. We might have also waived job search requirements (they were part of Travis Ford's buyout).

Regan Harris is just a guy, not a reputable source. So take his tweets with all the grains of salt.

Don't attack the messenger here, but some hubub on the radio is saying that coming from sources at OSU, Lutz is trying to get a huge payday and lengthy contract from OSU to take this job. That's what is holding things up right now. The dude is making like $600K at WKU and wants to come in here making like $3 million. Anyway, just what I heard.

Heard same thing, 7 years, 25 million.

News Channel 4 reported that the apparent hold up to the imminent Lutz announcement is legal complications related to his buyout at WKU.
