Who Should OSU Hire as Next Basketball Head Coach?

Gregg Marshall? Will Wade? Why not Lamont Evans? Is he out of jail yet? Way too many good candidates to go down that road. I like the Drake coach.
I am not tracking with you. How is Marshall at all related to Wade or Evans? If Arkansas can bring back Petrino.......or Chris Beard can immediately get hired at Ole Miss after what he did at Texas.....the pearl clutching is tiresome in this business. If everyone is dirty and cheating, no one is, which means we can't be the only ones playing by the holier than thou rule set. Hell Eddie was as "tainted goods" as anyone we're talking about now when we brought him back, it worked out.

Gregg Marshall is a world class college basketball coach, currently sitting on his butt at home, that has won everywhere he's been. He coaches a style that will inject passion back into GIA. I am not saying he's the only option, but when that kind of option is out there, you have to at least make the call. He may be happy walking to his mailbox every week to grab his check from Wichita State, who knows. He's done more with less than anyone that has been thrown out as an option to this point. I like the Drake guy too FTR.

Maybe Marshall is salvageable, but again, way too many good candidates available without baggage. Not only no, but hell no, on Will Wade, he's as scummy as anyone out there, and he doesn't have the KU mystique to save him. We're not Ole Miss, that program is just gross. Have a little respect for crying out loud.

You don't want to drop $350k for a generational talent like Mousa Cisse? :ROFLMAO:

I get where you're coming from, I don't want us to be an Ole Miss or Auburn with their slimy, complete disregard for any semblance of decency type hires. On that point, Will Wade is a pass for me as is anyone associated with rapelor.

But if we try to stay overly pure in today's atmosphere we'll end up like Boston College, so Marshall I'm all for. His situation strikes me very much like Leach's at Tech, it's allegations and hearsay and probably players being soft to a large extent. Add to that what was said earlier in this thread about not giving a f**k if coaches are "mean to players" who are demanding and cashing 6 figure checks on an annual basis. Sack up. You wanted paid and you got it, welcome to the real adult world where that comes with unyielding expectations. Your coach and you both are lavishly compensated to WIN, not to be swaddled.

If the prospect pool was shallower I'd consider Marshall, but even if the allegations were overstated, his players clearly hated him, and that's concerning. You don't need to pal around with the players, but you can earn their respect without being abusive, or such an a-hole that the players would exaggerate or even lie about abuse. If nothing else, other programs would use his past for negative recruiting, and it'll probably work.

I don't think the negative recruiting would be as detrimental as you do. Nowadays it's about 2 things: money and winning. How much am I going to get paid, and will I/we be successful and in the spotlight enough that I can leverage that success into getting paid regardless of where? Marshall's alleged behavior didn't stop kids from going to WSU, doubt it would stop them from coming here.

Sure there's other options without baggage available. But if we end up with Marshall I have zero qualms.

Is it also just our luck that there seems to be a ton of high profile jobs open this cycle? Is this uncommonly high or am I just usually not paying attention to it? Where would some of you rank our job compared to the others?

I haven't followed the sport much at all this year, what's the carousel look like as of now?

good job Chad!!! No need for gimmicks
The only way Doug should get a shot is if we have to fire someone midyear and we need an interim to finish the season. Or he actually starts coaching college basketball as an assistant. I like Doug but he is not what this program needs right now. He would sell a bunch of tickets year one but unless he is the reincarnation of Eddie Sutton in hiding, we will be right back where we are right now.

From what I know the open jobs are..

Ohio State
Stanford
West Virginia
Louisville
Vanderbilt
Depaul
Washington
Michigan

I think thats it for the bigger programs. I've heard rumors of Arizona State, Florida State and NC State as well but I dont think anything has been final there - unless I missed it.

Of those... I'd put us maybe third or fourth most attractive opening? Behind Ohio State, Louisville, and maybe Michigan?

Agreed. In my eye we'd be behind Louisville for sure. I'd think on the same level as tOSU, Michigan, probably WVU.

We sure as heck aint anywhere close to behind vandy and DePaul, and I don't think Washington or Stanford either tbh.

Ford is out at St. Louis? Oof rough go of things since UMass.

I think our stature is on par with tOSU and Michigan, but they're resources are way more than ours, but who knows how much of a factor that is. So I agree, at this point, Louisville is the only opening that is more prominent that ours. I suspect Texas might also fire Terry, which would be another program that is probably on par prestige wise, but with enormous resources.

I'm sort of over Travis Ford, but man I cannot stand that Underwood has been successful. I want him to fail so bad but should probably just let it go. A good hire by OSU with some early success will help enormously.
The only thing in that regard keeping me sane is they have yet to accomplish squat in the tourney. It was delicious to watch them as a #1 seed not even make the sweet sixteen.
