You Over/Under For This Year?

We discussed this at length at the end of last season when the sting of disappointment was still strong and coaching and roster changes were still unknown.

I’m curious to know how/if the offseason has changed anyone’s expectations. What win total reassures you that a HC who admittedly slept on the paradigm shift in his own sport will give you confidence that he’s still the guy to lead the program in a new era?

I feel like 7-5 is a pretty reasonable expectation. Anything less than that is time to say thanks for what you’ve done, it’s time to move on.

I would say less total record and more where we are at as the season progresses.

On November 1st we travel to Kansas and have KSU, UCF, and Iowa State left on the schedule. I want us to be in a spot where those games matter. If we don't completely control our own destiny it is what it is, but I want us to have a realistic shot at playing for more than just getting bowl eligible. Im not saying it's time to move on if we aren't there-there are alot of factors aside from straight wins and losses that will say if its time to look elsewhere. But if we have a season where we are decent at times but definitely going to get blown out against the top of the conference Ill have less confidence that we will be able to have years like 2011 or 2021 again.

It depends how we win and/or lose. I think we can win 6 or 7, but I don't want to see any more humiliating losses like last year. In most of Gundy's losses over the past few years, we haven't even been competitive.

Agree with some of what they said, how we look in the wins and losses will matter as much as the win total. Be competitive in Eugene and my over under might be different than if we get run out of Autzen.

I do think as shocking as last year was, this year could be the same the other direction.

I bet the over when I was in Vegas in June but I got it at 4.5 at MGM.

I think 8 is my personal number with the losses being hard fought competing games.

I hope you guys are right, my by optimism is just gone. I think the ceiling is 7 wins, and the basement is 3. I'll go with 6-6. Having 2 completely inexperienced QBs and an OL that has been together for a few months is not a recipe for success. I would LOVE to be wrong!

11. I'll take the over.

Because ticket sales seem strong, I think it will only take 6 wins for Gundy to keep his job. My guess is we win 7 games, but that isn’t acceptable given the fact that we are losing ground quickly to other programs. Gundy had a chance to be the big dog in the conference last year and pissed down his leg. I am not a Gundy hater though. I want him to turn this thing around. The QB situation is disappointing. Flores has been in the program how long and isn’t the clear starter. That is a problem. If the offensive line can block anybody, then we win 7-8. If they can’t then we are screwed. Cooper Bassett may be more important than Gundy to be honest.

Hopefully Andrew Mitchell isn’t just standing around with his pecker in his hand.

Why can’t the QB answer be that Hauss is just that good and that’s why it’s a challenge?

This doesn't get stated enough!
Hoover was/is seen as one of the top QBs in the league this year, and Hauss was good enough to force his way onto the field last year, even if it was in limited duty.

IMO, we are going to be a surprise this year, and the QB position will be a big part of that.

a lot of you guys get way into numbers and they matter; But qualitative analysis is a thing.

We'll be able to tell if this team is good or not by watching them in the 4th quarter vs UT Martin and the 4th quarter versus Oregon.

If we're goofing off against a slapdick FCS opponent -what the body language is, what the urgency is, how quickly we're getting plays on the field, how quickly we bounce up after tackles, how complacent or disciplined we look.

I'd say to the same thing about the Oregon game, but we are clearly outskilled at most positions, Dan Lanning is serious about trying to win a national championship and playing in a loud and hostile road game two time zones away will tell us if we're serious or if all the talk was just talk.
I want to look at body language of our team in the fourth quarter.

If Gundy looks likes he is hiding anything or trying to keep his playbook a secret against UT Martin, We are cooked and over as an era. we may go to an early December bowl game, but if we look like we're holding anything back against UT Martin. We need to look at options, because Gundy isn't being serious as a coach.

If UT Martin plays out of their mind that's one thing, if we play down to their level or we go completely conservative by the 4th quarter, start playing taps and make sure Bullet gets plenty of work during the week because he won't on Saturdays.

Dude is on thin ice after going full brown on the bedsheets last year. He's been playing the long game for long enough and it's led to underachieving. He's had a good run, but we don't have room for any of his trademark weirdness. It's about winning right now, not playing scared.

I don’t understand your reasoning at all. Why in the world would you put on film things for Oregon to prepare for when they should absolutely not be needed to win the UT Martin game? We are going to go base vanilla against UTM as we should and win with our talent difference alone. The Oregon game will be the game that shows the trajectory of this team.

Will surprise really work that well against Oregon? Why not use the plays during game time, even if not necessary to win, just to get game-time experience? Try to get the set right, and everybody on the same page. Will this tactic really play a major role in the Oregon game?

Let’s face it, we would get better game time experience going against our own defense in a scrimmage than we will against UTM. Also I think you are discounting to much how much tape of an opponent is broken down prior to a game. Every little tendency and how to use that to attack a play is scrutinized.

Well, do you think we're just going to line up and whip Oregon physically?

Of course we'll have to show some things we haven't shown yet. That's good football--get them misalgined, get them off balance, then have another plan for when they adjust.
