Virginia Tech

Spratley is our best shot. Hamiti would likely have to beat both Keegan O'Toole and Levi Haines. Matt Ramos and Richard Figueroa aren't as imposing as the two at the top of 174
I think hamiti could beat both of them. He wrestles with authority. I would take him against otoole and Haines

The crowd was good. There were lots of high school kids at the match due to a high school tournament. Spratley, Jamison, and Hamiti all made a big statement with convincing wins over good competition. The team is fun to watch. Bring someone new to a match if you can because they will likely leave as a new wrestling fan.

The impressiveness of this win cannot be overstated. This was a statement team victory. VT is a really good squad. Should we have won, yes……but did anyone see a 34-9 curb stomping, I don’t think so.

The Hamiti dual was massively impressive! I agree with the poster that said he is capable of beating anyone this year if he wrestles like that!

Probably still not at the point we can beat PSU at nationals this year but 2nd is very possible and PSU won’t be having any 100 point team margin this year. Heck, if this team continues to get better at the pace they have, I don’t put anything beyond their ability to achieve!

These are important duals because they help to show what the staff can do with development. We will still need the portal a lot, and this shows that someone can come here, have good partners, and improve. Bringing in zahid, RBY, etc. matters to recruits and portal wrestlers who want high level competition daily. Vantresca has been an all American and Spratley has not; however, the trajectory looks much better for Spratley at OSU than for vantresca. RBY, Gilman, and Fix are a big part of that.

How much training and benefit does say a 125 do w 133? Do they even train up w a 141? Also, aside from 285, does the weight difference training mean more or less as you move up in weight class? For example how much is muscle at 125 v 133 that impacts strength as opposed to 174 training w 184 where the 10 pound delta is all muscle?

Others who were actual college wrestlers (I wasn’t) could weigh in, but I did wrestle in high school and our coach was a former OSU wrestler. I believe similar weights do practice against each other and as far as moving up and down weights, how much impact that has or how much muscle is involved really has to do with the person‘s body type. Like if a person was a small 133 pounder, it would be tough for that person to go up to 141 since they were already pushing it at 133. Others like Cael Hughes would be great at 133 but has trouble making that weight so he may end up being more natural at 141.
