US continues to go backward...

Yeah, that's my bad. I should've been more clear.

No stock trading for elected officials. No dual citizenship for elected officials.
I don’t personally have a problem with that, but that also isn’t what the present administration is pushing when it comes to dual citizenship.

Of course now. They'd lose a lot of DC to Israel. They're seeking profit off of it. So, pay to play now.

I think you misunderstand Trump administration’s position on dual citizenship for anyone.

A proposed bill, the "Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025," which would force dual citizens to choose one nationality and automatically strip U.S. citizenship from those who voluntarily acquire another. As of December 2025, this is a proposed bill and has not passed into law.

They’re advocating banning dual citizenship for all American citizens, not just elected officials.

That is wild considering he's owned by Israel. It would be going against the benefit of many dual American/Israeli's in DC. I'm shocked that he hasn't been told to shoot that one down.

Joe Thompson, Minnesota's top federal fraud prosecutor, quits over ICE shooting probe npr
Joe Thompson, the career U.S. Justice Department attorney best known for prosecuting social services fraud in Minnesota, has resigned along with other experienced attorneys at the Minnesota U.S. Attorney's Office.

The move comes after top Justice Department officials pushed the Minnesota U.S. Attorney's Office to investigate the widow of Renee Macklin Good, the person shot and killed last week by ICE agent Jonathan Ross, MPR News has learned.

Thompson, 47, also objected to the DOJ's decision to exclude the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension from the investigation into the shooting and the department's reluctance to investigate Ross, according to a person familiar with Thompson's decision.

Veteran assistant U.S. attorneys Melinda Williams, Harry Jacobs, and Thomas Calhoun-Lopez also resigned. The prosecutors were also concerned that immigration enforcement is diverting resources away from prosecuting major fraud cases in the state.

Williams oversees the office's criminal division. She helped to secure the sex trafficking conviction of former Minnesota Republican Party operative Tony Lazzaro and also prosecuted drug dealer Aaron Broussard, whom a jury found guilty in the fentanyl overdose deaths of 11 people.

Thompson had served as acting U.S. attorney for Minnesota and then first assistant U.S. attorney, taking on a higher profile the past few months as he announced charges against people allegedly stealing from federally funded programs in Minnesota.

Thompson’s office said he would not be commenting Tuesday on his resignation.

Newly appointed U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Dan Rosen did not respond to a request for comment on the resignations.

Justice Department officials in Washington have turned aside questions about whether Ross might face any charges in the shooting. “There is currently no basis for a criminal civil rights investigation” of the shooting, Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement.

On social media, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey lauded Thompson and the other prosecutors who resigned as heroes.

“The people pushing to prosecute Renee's widow are monsters,” he added. “In their pursuit of cruelty, the administration also just set back the work of fighting fraud by pushing out the prosecutors who were working on those cases.”

Minnesota Democratic U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar also praised Thompson’s work as a fraud prosecutor, calling his resignation “a loss for our state and for public safety.”

In an interview with MPR News, Klobuchar said the DOJ has politicized the investigation.

"The first way they did it was cutting out the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. That was such a bad sign that there was more bad to come, because our Minnesota Bureau has seasoned professionals. They've always worked together, and they cut them out."

In a social media post, Gov. Tim Walz said, “Joe is a principled public servant who spent more than a decade achieving justice for Minnesotans. This is a huge loss for our state. It’s also the latest sign Trump is pushing nonpartisan career professionals out of the justice department, replacing them with his sycophants.”

In addition to Thompson, several other experienced Minnesota prosecutors resigned.

@CowboyJD or anyone who knows more, do all these DOJ attorneys resigning because our DOJ is now fraudulent help by showing there is an issue or just harm us further because they are clearing all the ethical attorneys out?

Of all the Trump stuff, I think the DOJ worries me the most. If our justice system becomes a big fraud, and it seems it is half way there, we will not ever be what we were.

As an outside opinion it seems to me this has, in every previous instance, brought attention to the BS that is about to take place. Unfortunately nobody does anything to prevent it, and it seems like soon after everyone’s give-a-s*** disappears.
TL/DR-these folks resigning will just open up spots for the administration to install people who will do EXACTLY what they’re told, right or wrong.
F-ing useless

I was reading a reddit thread about people knowing ICE agents. Prior to this year it was mostly regular people doing a regular job. Now there has been a mass exodus of career agents. A combination of ethical concerns over their current mission plus a real lack of trust in new recruits has led a bunch of them to find other fields to work in. In addition agents from other departments-one person mentioned he knew a guy who was with the IRS doing field work got moved over. It sounds like with that department the federal government is pushing out the people who aren't comfortable with the job and are forcing people in other departments they would prefer leave the federal work force into those roles to get them out as well.

Im guessing similar tactics are being used in other departments as well.

IMO, ethical attorneys in the DOJ are in a no win situation. If they stay and fight for the rule of law, independence from the unitary executive instead of fealty to it, and justice over retribution/revenge…..they’re either getting fired or silenced. So publicly and loudly resigning may be the one option they have to at least try to make a difference.

Trump’s total capture of and destruction of the independence of the DOJ is my co-biggest concern along with his attempt capture the command elements of the military to the point that they might choose allegiance to him over their duty to the Constitution. In truth, they’re pretty much the same thing. Both are supposed to be dedicated to the Constitution and the rule of law, over anything or anyone else.

IMO, I wish the AG was an elected position at the Federal level like it is in most, if not all States. That wish and five bucks might get me a Starbuck’s coffee, but that’s about it.
