US continues to go backward...

If 20,000 laws can't stop mass shootings, then why don't we just give up and accept that we live in the greatest gun culture on earth. Let's make overall body armor the hot new fashion, so it will work better than it did for Kirk.

You didn't answer the question. We can start with making murder illegal.

Townie, I'm going to an event with my kids. I'll be back in a couple of hours. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what new law/laws we need that might stop murder.

I didn't mean to abolish 20,000 laws against guns. Instead, why make any more laws if they don't work. Republicans don't want any new prohibitive laws against guns that might work.

I hope current laws would work that after Kirk's killer messaged that he was going to take out Kirk, that cops if notified in time would have the power to track him down and take away the potential killer's guns. That should happen to anyone who abuses the 2nd Amendment like that.

If you make a threat to anyone, yea. I agree. People should have spoken up when he posted threats. The group he was a part of, they are all to blame in some aspect.

Interesting video and perspective.

He has some insightful comments.

3:00 “Charlie believed in race less than the people calling him racist”

3:14 “We judge strangers from echo chambers…and that’s part of the tragedy because people can’t tell the difference between hate speech and speech they hate”

3:28 “Facist, racist…these words have been so overused that they’ve lost meaning. And it’s causing a breakdown in society”

yet he say that affirmative action steals slots from white people instead of stealing slots from qualified people.

He makes some very good points. If this is the case, it is unfortunate that Kirk sounded so different in other clips.

Also, if this is true, Kirk made a fundamental flaw. His idea that someone that was accepted to a training program through DEI/AA and made it through the program is somehow inferior to others is simply wrong in most cases. What I know is medicine, and there is very little evidence that the standardized test scores predict who will be a better physician. Also, a non-DEI proxy is MD vs DO. MDs overall have higher average test scores than DOs. Yet there is no quality difference in the care provided in multiple studies. Anecdotally and of course generalizing, I find patients often like DOs better and when I have to call them in at 3:00am, DOs tend to generally be more personable and empathetic. (I'm an MD)

So, while I'm happy to see other evidence that his racist-sounding comments were not really based in racism, his conclusions about individuals were still incorrect and harmful.

This guy might be interesting. I was wondering if he was just a right wing guy so I scrolled down to tweets from a few weeks ago and he seems to have some really unbiased stuff. Saw him willing to call out anyone and critiquing the Trump administration without his commentary devolving into hate. Really big on releasing the Epstein files and calling out the administration and Republicans in general for holding back on it. Respectful of Kirk and willing to call out both sides. Ill have to remember this account-good find.

I believe hes mistaken about Kirk here though. Generally when people say they don't see race it's the equivalent to "no offense, but." There was a clip earlier where he was mocking successful black women earlier as a justification against affirmative action. You can't say you don't see race when at the same time you are saying successful people are undeserving of that success because of their race. He didn't behave like or pretend to be a civil rights champion. He used his platform to be confrontational and challenge viewpoints that didn't fit into his definition of American society, and his definition of American society is one that looks at race in an us vs them manner. He wasn’t overtly racist but Im not going to give him credit for that-thats a basic level of human decency. You don't get a feather in your cap for not being a terrible human being. But he was perfectly fine with a society where people knew their place.

Not trying to argue. The problem with people being murdered like we've seen is due to a break down in our society the past 25-30 years. Social media, internet, etc. It's caused a major disconnect between our children and reality.

The gun has been around for as long as we've been a nation. This was RARELY happening when I was growing up (and before that).
Bless your heart. You must be too young to remember all the political assasinations and unsuccessful attempts that went on beginning in 1962 with President Kennedy getting killed. Even John Lennon got killed. The Texas Tower Massacre was quite chilling how such a thing could happen in the U. S. 8 nurses one by one got murdered by a stabber with a knife. In 1967, 43 people got killed in a Detroit race riot. Reagan nearly got killed in 1981. I guess that's good for starters. At least things settled down some after 1981.

Hell it's so long ago Hinkley has been released as of 2022

John Hinckley Jr., who tried to assassinate President Reagan, is granted full release

After decades of mental health oversight, John Hinckley Jr. is totally free : NPR https://share.google/NDSgblVthEIBbjH64

Dan Bongino says the FBI knew in advance that Tyler Robinson was going to attack Charlie Kirk, and confirms the existence of a note, the contents of which has not been revealed to the public.

I haven’t seen any of his comment about AA that were racist. The videos of Kirk that I’ve seen on the subject show him pointing out that those that get in thru lower standards can take a spot from those otherwise qualified. And that merit should be the same for all.

This clip at 28:21 is an example

A person can be racist and/or have prejudices and still be able to come across as not in certain or even most situations or conversations. I’ve known people who slip up and say a racist or prejudiced comment, but most of the time appear to be nothing of the sort. Charlie may have been a good dude most of the time, but has slipped up enough for me to call him out for what he is. A duck.
