US continues to go backward...

I’ve been really shocked at the martyrdom of Kirk. I’m sure he was important to his family and friends but both sides in this deal have lost their minds.

Its more about the culture war than it is Kirk. If he was in a car accident he would have gotten some thoughts and prayers and would have been forgotten in a month. But when there was a chance to blame the left, well go back and look at some of the comments when it started looking like his "roommate" was transitioning. People don't care about Kirk as much as they want to use it as an opportunity to dehumanize political opposition. And to be fair this isn't something that started organically with normal people on the right. People that use social media to influence their cause probably started it.

My son is fairly liberal, I’m fairly conservative. He texted me last night and I quote “Dad, what are we doing? Both sides in this have lost their minds”.

Oh, WOW, Michael Yon says TPUSA is a psyop full stop to support Zionist Israel and is a huge money maker. Kirk was murdered as a result of straying from the reservation. But Yon even wonders if Kirk was really killed and may still be alive and off on some island. Or maybe Yon is very good at making idle speculations. Yon strays off to other subjects, such as saying bitcoin is a massive scam. It's all just cult stuff. He's studied cults and even been there. Yon says there are no mass deportations going on. He referred to Joe Rogan as a dope head. There is a lot to unload in this video.

Yon doesn't mind having regular interviews with conspiracy theory fanatic and the quack's quack, Michael Adams, so I have my doubts as to what to think. Why should credible people, if they really are, feel driven to do that? Anyway, Yon has an interesting background from wanting to be around to report from war torn countries and odd people, including cannibals. And likes to read old books. There are awesome people, like Musk, for being billionaires many times over, and then there is a character like Michael Yon.

So European, East Asian, Australia and NZ have more functional societies than us as they have far lower murder rates and gun crime rates?
It's like everyone forgets things like the UT clock tower sniper happened (just one glaring example; there are others). It's obvious the problem is nuanced and multi-faceted*

The subject we were speaking about was the rate for white men. You tried to add white women. You then added the rate for black men even though it also had nothing to do with what we were talking about. So, since you decided to add black murder rates for no reason I added black exoneration rates to counter your claims against them. Instead of being a decent human and commenting “interesting and sad, race should not play a part in murder convictions” you say you don’t care. None of it is about domestic violence. Murder only.

So, you care to post derogatory data about black men but don’t care about data about how they are unfairly treated.

Gotcha, I now understand what kind of person I am dealing with.

Holy sh*t, yea... you got me. My entire ploy was to include 'white women' in the stats. 🤦‍♂️

I don't care. No. I don't. Not in the context of this discussion. We are talking about mass shooters. So yea, you want to open up a conversation thread about violent crime, non-violent crime, etc., and about the idea of systemic racism inside the Justice System? That's where we are going now? If so, start a new topic.

I was TALKING ABOUT MASS SHOOTINGS.

Let me say it again...

I WAS TALKING ABOUT MASS SHOOTINGS.

I never said that gun violence/mass shootings never happened. I said that we've seen a major uptick since Columbine and the birth of the internet/social media. If you don't think social media has a MAJOR impact on our kids, your head is in the sand. All of you.

I remember the Luby's Restaurant shooting, Edmond Post Office, and the McDonalds in San Diego. More than half of the mass shootings in the history of our country have taken place since 2000. 33% the past 15 years. There is a HUGE increase and we have to understand why those numbers have increased.

Nearly 90 people were murdered and 500 injured in Nice, France by a guy driving a truck and using it as a weapon. A few years ago in China, a man stabbed over 20 people. Again, evil finds a way. Yes, in the United States since we do have more access to firearms (we're the only country with a 2A) and thus, will be used to cause harm by those who want to hurt or kill others.

I'll be honest.
I don't care
No
I don't
I was stating my opinion just like you stated yours; I wasn't even talking to you (didn't quote or tag you, right?) I responded to @steross. Wasn't going to attempt to change your mind, so you can bark up a different tree.

The bold for sure. It was short tiktok clips that manipulate and skew talking points way out of context. Factor in the algo and a lot of people are never going to get full context and the truth. For years many people have logged into social media for their daily rage bait dopamine kick and got tricked into thinking that Charlie was a fascist, racist, bigot, homophobe that was leading a charge to murder them all.

I would say yes.

This video makes a lot of good points about how we are all being used. And, deep down I think we all know it. But, it is just easier to do it than to fight it.

And on this one, it's a great video and I think everyone needs to watch it. I agree with 95% of it. But I'm also torn on a few things. Mostly the proverbial "they." He tries to get specific with his "covert elite" label. I just don't know if it's a small group trying to control the populace. I lean toward it's a small group who doesn't give a crap about the populace and will make money in any way they can. Hate, division, and anger have been commoditized. And they sell. People crave them. It's big tobacco all over again. They have a product that's addictive and dangerous to society but they'll lie, lobby, and cheat all they can to stay in business. I think it may be that simple. There's no big plan.

That doesn't mean that politicians and large corporations don't use division to their advantage. Sure they do.

And then there's the Elon Musks and Peter Thiels of the world. They actually seem to believe in something and that's honestly scarier. Anyway...I don't know s*** about f***.

You were indirectly talking to me/about me.

So.....

Here, maybe I can change the color and it will help; I've seen this elsewhere, so....

Okay dude. Gotcha. I'll make sure I don't chime in when you post something... 🙄

Just a weird way to communicate on a message board, "Don't talk to me unless I talk to you."

🤷‍♂️

Not what was said, but OK (y)

I would say yes.

You can add Larry Ellison and Alex Karp to that list too. These tech oligarchs are something else altogether. They care about growing their already immense wealth, but they do not plan on stopping there. They want to control it all.

Omnipresent AI cameras will ensure good behavior, says Larry Ellison

On Thursday, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison shared his vision for an AI-powered surveillance future during a company financial meeting, reports Business Insider. During an investor Q&A, Ellison described a world where artificial intelligence systems would constantly monitor citizens through an extensive network of cameras and drones, stating this would ensure both police and citizens don't break the law.

Ellison, who briefly became the world's second-wealthiest person last week when his net worth surpassed Jeff Bezos' for a short time, outlined a scenario where AI models would analyze footage from security cameras, police body cams, doorbell cameras, and vehicle dash cams.

"Citizens will be on their best behavior because we are constantly recording and reporting everything that's going on," Ellison said, describing what he sees as the benefits from automated oversight from AI and automated alerts for when crime takes place. "We're going to have supervision," he continued. "Every police officer is going to be supervised at all times, and if there's a problem, AI will report the problem and report it to the appropriate person."

The 80-year-old billionaire also predicted that AI-controlled drones would replace police vehicles in high-speed pursuits. "You just have a drone follow the car," he explained. "It's very simple in the age of autonomous drones."

Ellison co-founded Oracle in 1977 and served as CEO until he stepped down in 2014. He currently serves as the company's executive chairman and CTO.

Sounds familiar

While Ellison attempted to paint his prediction of universal public surveillance in a positive light, his remarks raise significant questions about privacy, civil liberties, and the potential for abuse in a world of ubiquitous AI monitoring.

Ellison's vision bears more than a passing resemblance to the cautionary world portrayed in George Orwell's prescient novel 1984. In Orwell's fiction, the totalitarian government of Oceania uses ubiquitous "telescreens" to monitor citizens constantly, creating a society where privacy no longer exists and independent thought becomes nearly impossible.

But Orwell's famous phrase "Big Brother is watching you" would take on new meaning in Ellison's tech-driven scenario, where AI systems, rather than human watchers, would serve as the ever-vigilant eyes of authority. Once considered a sci-fi trope, automated systems are already becoming a reality: Similar automated CCTV surveillance systems have already been trialed in London Underground and at the 2024 Olympics.

China has been using automated systems (including AI) to surveil its citizens for years. In 2022, Reuters reported that Chinese firms had developed AI software to sort data collected on residents using a network of surveillance cameras deployed across cities and rural areas as part of China's "sharp eyes" campaign from 2015 to 2020. This "one person, one file" technology reportedly organizes collected data on individual Chinese citizens, leading to what The Economic Times called a "road to digital totalitarianism."

Begging for GPUs

Ellison’s prediction of AI-driven surveillance will rely on the development of powerful hardware, but shortages of AI-acceleration components like GPUs could slow them down. During the same Q&A last week, Ellison recounted a dinner with Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang that he characterized as "me and Elon begging Jensen for GPUs," highlighting the intense demand for the chips. Ellison claimed they pleaded with Huang, saying, "Please take our money... we need you to take more of our money."

Surveillance isn't the only AI application that Ellison is excited about. As Big Tech companies race to inject AI models into what seems like every conceivable application, whether good or bad, Oracle has been no exception, recently launching several AI initiatives, like a partnership with Musk's SpaceX to bring AI to farming. The billionaire investor predicted during the meeting that over the next five years, companies will invest upwards of $100 billion in building and training AI models, emphasizing the "astronomical" scale of the AI race.

Hyperbolic statements aren’t great but are so common now as to be fairly easy to ignore. But, IMHO,here is the real harm. When commentators like him spout racial “facts” that paint one race worse than another but exaggerate and/or avoid the real data.

Not here for the banter or arguing, but the first part of his argument is missing a key data point. Hispanics are missing from the first pie chart. On that same website, under the "ethnicity" tab, it's separated by (Hispanics) and (Non-Hispanics). Hispanics are 29.8% or 46,040. There's no conclusive evidence which group of "race" the Hispanic population got grouped into, but it seems as if they almost dumped them into the "white" pie chart for whatever reason.

Only reason I'm bringing this up is the gentlemen making the claim to debunk Kirk didn't thoroughly research it and missed a huge data point. Doesn't make his or Kirk's claim correct, but it goes to show the narrative pushed by folks on either side of the aisle when trying to push a topic of debate. So, Grindz too, is trying to create divide by cherry picking data points and creating a talking point, when the fact is - neither of them were correct.

I don't often post in these subjects but I do read a lot of banter between everyone for shitter entertainment, so carry on :)
