US continues to go backward...

not interested in preserving voting rights of minorities and certain other groups. Two SCOTUS justices appear to support that position.
What “voting rights of minorities and certain other groups” are in jeopardy? Requiring an ID to vote is NOT an attack on minorities.

It’s still easy for JT so screw all the others complaining.

Wow. Any emergency hotline should have periodically (maybe weekly?) checks. That's a big failure by the prior administration that got carried over.
If you mean admin at the pres level I don't put that on them.....even at the national level of the FAA.....they can't be in charge of every detail to that level there isn't enough time in the day. There has to be some type of rule/regulation that was just completely ignored here.....

That being said whoever is in charge at the local and regional level....and the whole communication dept..... for the FAA and whoever is the commanding officer of the tower/desk at the pentagon got to go. In the power biz all forms of emergency sat phones/radio/all calls/electronic coms are checked at a minimum monthly.....all companies required to have back up centers are required to test all coms back to the main operating facility/balancing authority/interconnect any time it is staffed and they must be staffed at least once a month most are weekly for checks such as this. Hell you can do checks now that don't involve human interaction just for circuit integrity we do that daily for both circuit integrity and test the failure alarms.

I also don't know if this had anything to do with or could have prevented the crash in anyway but it's symptomatic of an operation that is incredibly sloppy.

When I was still in and flying, the squadron crash phone got checked every morning base wide. We'd also do annual (?) emergency drills where you'd have to go through ALL steps required for major incidents (to include calling every emergency number in the book). Anything that is an emergency line needs to be confirmed consistently.

If something similar isn't required here I'd be surprised. I agree it's not up to POTUS, SECDEF or FAA head to confirm it, but if the atmosphere allows for failures like this at lower levels that does reflect on leadership. So there must have been an issue at some level where checks were not deemed important both directions there. Not sure what level that's at, but yeah someone messed up a few years ago at least and then they probably forgot it existed and it fell out of awareness due to time and personnel turnover.

MAGA Republican Turn on and Drags “Jewish Space Lady” MTG in Messy Public Fight

MAGA Republican Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Mike Lawler are trading verbal jabs over a funding disagreement on Trump’s “big, beautiful” spending bill.

This began when Lawler, along with four other House Republicans, came out against the bill for setting a $30,000 cap on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction. This quickly set off the perpetually-charged Taylor Greene.

“Mike Lawler usually isn’t the guy in the conference with the best ideas, after all we lost a Republican held seat to a Democrat the last time Republicans voted for one of his ‘great’ strategy,” Taylor Greene wrote. “Now Mike Lawler is a NO on Trump’s big beautiful bill because he won’t accept a SALT cap increase from $10K to $30K per year.”

“With the median income of $118,882 in Lawler’s district the SALT cap of $30,000 should be an easy YES for Mike Lawler. The rest of America doesn’t want to and shouldn’t have to make up the difference!!!!!” she continued. “And Mike Lawler has a toss up seat. What’s the point in Republicans fighting to protect and keep re-electing ‘Republicans’ if they constantly undermine the agenda America voted for???”

Lawler hit back.

“Shockingly the ‘Jewish Space Laser’ lady once again doesn’t have a clue what she is talking about,” he replied on X. “By the way, the reason you enjoy a gavel is because Republicans like me have won our seats. Good luck being in the Majority if we don’t.”

“Here is Mike Lawler claiming HE gave us the majority NOT President Donald Trump!!! Did you all vote for Mike Lawler and his agenda???” MTG replied unrelentingly. “Or did America vote for President Trump and his MAGA America First agenda? Tell Mike Lawler what you voted for.”

“MTG ran almost 10 points behind President Trump in one of the most Republican districts. I ran 6.5 points ahead of President Trump in a district won by Kamala Harris,” Lawler replied. “I’m 1 of only 3 Republicans in a district won by Harris. I know math is difficult, but: 220-3=217.”

This internal beef feels like yet another example of the lengths that some Republicans—especially those legislating in deep blue strongholds like Lawler—will or won’t go to for Trump and the hardline MAGA agenda.
