US continues to go backward...

The Kansas City Chiefs' 17-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens averaged 55.47 million on CBS, making it the most-watched AFC championship game ever. The audience peaked at 64.02 million.

I’m an NFL fan. Chiefs are my team. I could give 2 shakes if they show Taylor 15 times or not at all. Nobody complained the week before when they showed Jason Kelce multiple times. But he’s an alpha right? Spoiler he’s not.

I don’t think that record audience was NFL purity fans. The bigger the better in this case.

It’ll be over in 2 weeks and Magastanians will find something else to be miserable SoBs about.

Indiana GOP rep flashes gun during students’ statehouse visit

During a conversation with a group of high school student advocates against gun violence Wednesday, a state Republican representative thought showing them his gun would discourage their efforts.

IndyStar reports, Rep. Jim Lucas "struck up a conversation with the students, which resulted in a discussion about gun laws and school shootings, according to The Statehouse File."

The video shared to X/Twitter by The Statehouse File shows Lucas flashing his gun holster, then disregarding the concern of one student who said, "nothing about that makes me feel safe." The GOP leader replied, "those are feelings, I’m talking facts."

According to a CBS4Indy report, state Democrats released a statement following the incident, saying, "Indiana Republicans seemingly have enough time to belittle and intimidate high school students in between passing laws defunding the police, expanding child labor, and helping the gun lobby get off in court. This supermajority puts the interests of the gun lobby over those of our local governments, and even the safety of Hoosier students. It’s wrong, and it’s time to check their power at the ballot box in November. Indiana Republicans say laws can’t stop gun violence. They have no plan to stop gun violence because they do not believe it is possible. We all deserve an Indiana where students – and everyone in our communities – feel safe and gun-owning Hoosiers can do so safely and responsibly."

CBS4Indy notes, "The exchange between Lucas and students comes after a bill that would expand the right to carry firearms into the state capitol was passed by the Senate Corrections Committee, and now heads to the House."

Last June, Lucas was arrested for driving under the influence, crashing his truck and ultimately fleeing the scene, according to WRTV. The GOP lawmaker accepted a plea deal to avoid jail time.

I wonder if Lucas gained more votes than lost them by flashing his gun around high school students.

Democrats making claims Republicans are passing laws to defund police is new with me. I figured Republicans were beholden to police unions.

That’s just the munchies fans bellyaching. If Swift put out a “praise” song that played on KLOVE they would be all about it

GOP is waging a war with Taylor Swift for 1 reason: She got young people to register to vote. Reason 1b: they think she's a liberal.

Well, those reasons and a deep rooted persecution fetish. This is just the outrage de jour. Can't focus on actual things that affect real people, gotta keep waging those imaginary social wars to keep the grift going. It's pathetic.

SMH...LOL...

Here's why conspiracy theories about Taylor Swift and the Super Bowl are spreading npr

Taylor Swift has been one of the most dominant cultural figures of the past year, between her billion-dollar Eras Tour and accompanying film, a slew of Grammy nominations, and a high-profile romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce that's made her a fixture of the National Football League season.
But Swift's popularity is being twisted into a threat by a contingent of far-right, Donald Trump-supporting conservatives who have started circulating conspiracy theories about the singer, the Super Bowl, and the 2024 election.

During the Chiefs' conference championship game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Mike Crispi, a pro-Trump podcast host on the right-wing Salem Media Group, posted a rant claiming the NFL had "RIGGED" a Chiefs victory.

"All to spread DEMOCRAT PROPAGANDA. Calling it now: KC wins, goes to Super Bowl, Swift comes out at the halftime show and 'endorses' Joe Biden with Kelce at midfield. It's all been an op since day one," Crispi wrote on X. (This will be the Chiefs' fourth Super Bowl appearance in the past five years.)
...
"I wonder who's going to win the Super Bowl next month. And I wonder if there's a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall," former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who has pushed debunked conspiracy theories about the Jan. 6th insurrection, the 2020 election, and 9/11, wrote on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, on Monday.

Unfounded claims about Swift's alleged role as a government plant have been swirling for some time. Last month, Fox News host Jesse Watters speculated that Swift might be a Pentagon "psyop" — an asset used for psychological operations.

"Is Swift a front for a covert political agenda?" he asked. While noting that he had no evidence, he pointed to Swift's endorsement of Biden in 2020 and her recent encouragement that fans register to vote, which led to a surge in registrations. The Pentagon rejected Watters' claim.

But the collision of the Super Bowl and a contentious presidential race have propelled the right-wing backlash to new heights. A New York Times report this week that Biden's campaign is hoping Swift will endorse him again this year added further fuel to the fire.

Influential right-wing figures including Jack Posobiec, who pushed the baseless Pizzagate conspiracy theory, and radio host Charlie Kirk have weighed in. Conservative cable outlets have dedicated multiple segments to Swift, with Fox News's Jeanine Pirro urging her, "Don't get involved in politics. We don't wanna see you there."

John Glenn Elementary School principal investigated for performing in drag submits resignation koco

OKLAHOMA CITY —
The principal of John Glenn Elementary School, whose teaching certificate was under state investigation last year after a social media firestorm showed that he performed in drag, has resigned.

Western Heights Public Schools Superintendent Brayden Savage confirmed to KOCO 5 that Shane Murnan submitted his resignation. It will be made official during the next school board meeting.

In the summer of 2023, the Oklahoma State Department of Education announced an investigation into Murnan's teaching certificate over what the department called "an act of moral turpitude." Murnan performed in drag while not at work, something that isn't illegal in any way and does not impact whether an educator can be licensed in the state of Oklahoma.

"These are not the actions of a school leader concerned about the well-being of children," State Superintendent Ryan Walters said when the investigation was announced.

A letter from Western Heights Public Schools officials released during the investigation pointed out that Murnan's certification was renewed in April 2023. It went on to say that Walters signed the certification.

In mid-September, parents, teachers and community members in Western Heights spoke about Murnan during a school board meeting. Some parents voiced concerns, while others showed support for the elementary school principal.

More young people participating is a great thing. Now go work your ass off and generate and educate ideas and policy tht actually makes a difference. Improves access.

If you can’t do that I guess the alternative is to gripe and complain or scare people.

Oklahoma's drag queen principal quietly resigns after flak with Ryan Walters, Libs of TikTok the oklahoman

An elementary school principal who performs as a drag queen outside of school hours has submitted his resignation from Western Heights Public Schools, the district’s superintendent confirmed Thursday.

The resignation of Shane Murnan, who’s been the principal at John Glenn Elementary School in the southwest Oklahoma City district, won’t be official until it’s voted upon by the school board at its next meeting, set for Feb. 12, Western Heights Superintendent Brayden Savage said. Murnan is still listed as the principal on the school’s website, but his district email address no longer works. A message left through one of his Facebook pages wasn’t immediately returned.

Murnan was hired in June by the district. He came from Oklahoma City Public Schools, where he had worked since 2015. In August, the conservative social media account Libs of TikTok posted an item identifying the principal as a drag queen performing under the name “Shantel Mandalay.”

State schools Superintendent Ryan Walters since has appointed that account’s founder to the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s Library Media Advisory Committee.

Soon after the Libs of TikTok post in late August, Walters called for Murnan’s resignation, but the district supported the principal, saying he had an outstanding reputation. In September, Walters threatened to reopen Western Heights’ accreditation status and review Murnan’s teaching certificate. The district responded that Murnan had been hired in accordance with its usual screening practices.

"For Dr. Murnan, this included a felony criminal background check and a verification of his teaching certificate, which was renewed in April 2023 and signed by State Superintendent Ryan Walters," the district said at the time.Murnan’s name has not appeared on an Oklahoma State Board of Education agenda since Walters made his threat.

Western Heights Public Schools has incurred extra costs for security, additional help

But since the August social media post, Savage said, the district has incurred extra costs for security and for hiring extra administrative help at John Glenn Elementary School. She said Murnan was often forced to work off-site due to threats received by the district. He recently went on paid administrative leave.Savage said the district has spent about $65,000 since August on those unexpected costs.“It is very sad, just a terrible, tragic situation,” Savage said. “When people question if (the situation) affects kids outside of the building, it affects everyone in the district, in that way. Funds being used (for this) could have been used in other ways.”

Walters said in December, without providing details, that he plans to propose changes to Education Department rules that would clarify “community standards” are part of the application for a teaching certificate and that would tie a district’s annual accreditation to its hiring practices.

Asked Thursday if Walters felt responsible for the principal losing his job, or for the district having to spend extra money on security, Education Department spokesman Dan Isett said, “Once again, The Oklahoman has things backward.”

“Superintendent Walters demanded that the school take action and fire a drag queen who used social media to recruit students,” Isett said. “Western Heights should never have brought a drag queen into a school. This is not a controversy; it is common sense. Walters will not allow Oklahoma schools to become a training ground in drag queen propaganda."

He added: “Finally, it is absurd to think that Walters supporters are somehow inherently dangerous to the point of requiring extra security and is a slander. I’m surprised you’re even mentioning.”

Who was he hurting? No one. The wrong person resigned. I wonder if there are bomb threats to schools if it was rumored a teacher was abusing kids or having sex with them. Was a bomb threat ever called into the Kingfisher high school because of the coach abusing kids and got by with it for years? We'd probably be surprised, or maybe not, from all the abuse and consensual sex with students and teachers that goes on in the high schools kept in secret.

It once again kind of reminds me years ago when I was in the 5th grade and my female teacher required all the boys to dress in drag to put on a fashion show for the school. I think a few parents did not like it. Not my mother. She loaned me some of her clothes for the show. I did not get much enjoyment out of being in the show, and no, it did not make me move on to become a drag queen as an adult. Now decades later, I wonder if it would be a statewide controversy, led by Walters, leading to firings if a 5th grade teacher or any teacher tried to do the same.
