US continues to go backward...

It all started at 9am ish on June 6th because they arrested SEIU California leader David Huerta and injured him in the Process as he was taking video of ICE agents raiding a business called Ambiance Apparel where several of his Union Members work . This was ongoing at the same time as the Home Depot ICE Raid.

The ICE raids at the Home Depot on Friday Morning and the Raids on Ambiance Apparel happened at the same Time Friday Morning. By 10:30AM they had arrested SEIU leader David Huerta and he was in the Hospital being treated due to injuries sustained in his arrest.

When Sky5 arrived on the scene just after 10 a.m., HSI agents had already left, but dozens of people remained, including the advocates who had attempted to stop the detentions. Federal agents have targeted other Home Depot stores with similar actions in recent weeks and months.

Also on Friday, agents raided two Ambiance Apparel locations in downtown Los Angeles. KTLA’s Rich Prickett reported from Sky5 that about two dozen people were detained.

Huerta leads SEIU California, a union with nearly 750,000 members that is a heavyweight in statewide politics. It represents a wide range of workers, from nurses and university researchers to janitors and public sector employees.

Lorena Gonzalez, leader of the California Labor Federation, a politically powerful statewide group of unions. Huerta is also vice president of the federation’s board. “He’s been around for a very long time in the movement … We sounded the alarm and everybody stood up.”

His endorsement with its purple logo is considered a badge of honor for some California and National lawmakers. The union’s recent victories include a $25 minimum wage for all workers at health care facilities.

“Everyone knows him,” said Lorena Gonzalez, leader of the California Labor Federation, a politically powerful statewide group of unions. Huerta is also vice president of the federation’s board. “He’s been around for a very long time in the movement … We sounded the alarm and everybody stood up.”

David Huerta, the 58-year-old president of a statewide janitor’s union and of the Service Employees International Union California, was arrested by federal agents Friday outside a Los Angeles garment warehouse where protesters gathered to watch and oppose an apparent workplace immigration raid.

The denouncements poured in quickly after that.

Federal authorities accuse Huerta of obstructing agents, though the circumstances of his arrest remain blurry. Video posted Friday on social media by Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, a Culver City Democrat, appears to show agents in law enforcement vests pushing Huerta to the ground as protesters cry out nearby.

Bill Essayli, the U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles, wrote on social media that Huerta had “deliberately obstructed” federal agents who had a judicial warrant by blocking their car. Ciaran McEvoy, spokesperson for Essayli’s office, would not share the warrant

“David Huerta is a respected leader, a patriot, and an advocate for working people,”
Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement. “No one should ever be harmed for witnessing government action.”

Federal prosecutors are charging Huerta with impeding a federal agent — which comes with a prison sentence of up to six years. He was released from custody this afternoon on a bond and on condition that he stay at least 100 yards away from federal officers.

The union has maintained he was peacefully protesting. U.S. Sens. Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, along with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, today wrote a letter to the Department of Homeland Security calling for a review of his arrest.

Lawmakers outraged over senator's forcible removal from DHS press conference

Washington — Lawmakers are calling for answers after Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla was forcibly removed from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's news conference in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, expressed shock over "the manhandling of a United States senator," adding that he wants answers "to what the hell went on."

Padilla stood up and walked to the front of the room while Noem was speaking and tried to ask her a question. Federal agents began shoving him out of the room as he said, "Hands off, hands off. I am Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary." Once outside the room, the agents placed him on the ground and put him in handcuffs. His office said Padilla was in Los Angeles "exercising his duty to perform Congressional oversight of the federal government's operations in Los Angeles and across California" and was in the building for a separate briefing.

Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, said Secret Service agents "thought [Padilla] was an attacker and officers acted appropriately." Noem told reporters that she and Padilla met after her press conference and had a "very productive" conversation.

"I wished that he would have reached out and identified himself and let us know who he was and that he wanted to talk," Noem said. "His approach, you know, was something that I don't think was appropriate at all. But the conversation was great and we're going to continue to communicate. We exchanged phone numbers and we're going to continue to talk on we can communicate better."

Nonetheless, Sen. Adam Schiff, Padilla's fellow California senator, called on Noem to resign and said there should be an investigation into law enforcement's conduct.

"It's just outrageous and disgraceful and sickening to watch," he said. "In the video, he's identifying himself as Sen. Alex Padilla, so I have no doubt that they understood exactly who he was, and that makes it all the more troubling."

Schiff added that Padilla has "every right to ask questions" and "to be treated the way he was, to be essentially brought to the ground and shackled after identifying himself, is a disgraceful action."

Schiff was one of a slew of Senate Democrats who took to the Senate floor following the incident. Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon reiterated Schumer's call for an investigation, saying he was "extremely outraged." Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey said "this to me is such an abuse of authority" and "there can be no justification." Sen. Patty Murray of Washington said it was "unacceptable" and that Democrats and Republicans should condemn the way Padilla was treated.

"I have been here for more than 32 years," Murray said. "I have never come this close to having tears in my eyes as I speak to both sides of this aisle about this horrendous incident that occurred."

Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut called it "an assault on the rule of law" and "an assault on our democracy."

Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii said "there is no context that justifies this action."

"This is the stuff of dictatorships," Schatz said. "It is actually happening. A United States senator was manhandled, shoved to the ground and cuffed."

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, a Nevada Democrat, likewise called on Noem to resign.

"Secretary Noem, you should resign," Cortez Masto said in a post on X. "You're head of Homeland Security and you can't take a question from a sitting U.S. Senator at a press conference? This level of abuse of power is shameful, outrageous, and is not doing anything to keep our homeland safe."

Rep. Ro Khanna, a California Democrat, brought up the incident during a House committee hearing on immigration, saying he was "horrified" and asking the Democratic governors before him, "tell me how you would feel if Marines were sent into your state or your senators were taken by the fists and pushed out of rooms?"

"What is going on in this country?" Khanna added.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom also shared an image of Padilla on X, saying, "If they can handcuff a U.S. Senator for asking a question, imagine what they will do to you."

The outrage wasn't only among Democrats. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, an Alaska Republican, told reporters she had seen a clip of the incident, calling it "horrible."

"It is shocking at every level. It's not the America I know," she said.

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a South Dakota Republican, told reporters that he had seen video of Padilla's removal but wanted more information before commenting further on the matter.

"Obviously we will have a response, but I want to get the facts and find out exactly what happened before we make any comments," Thune said.

What Stillwater man posted and what I listed was about how and when violence started. Your article stated the police chief did not feel the National Guard needed to be called.

I personally don’t think Trump should have called the Guard and certainly not the Marines. But that doesn’t change the fact that some protesters turned violent as most every news organization has reported. As you posted, “people generally see what they look for, and hear what they listen for”, instead of taking the time to read/watch the news from multiple sources.
sorry, didn´t know the rules to replying...I agree that tRump acted rashly...and as far as when did a group turn violent when, you can´t trust news to tell the whole truth anymore (where´s Walter Cronkite)...and I honestly don´t care when a few turned violent, tRump threw gasoline on a small campfire to see if he could ignite the forest...

I'm not interested in what AI slop says about the protests. I already posted a primary source from LAPD themselves that completely destroys that narrative.

Your post has 5 "citations" from LAPD. If they exist, it should be easy for you to find them and share them here.
As I stated, take ChatGPT’s summary with discretion…but below is a simple source —- it literally was the first article listed when I googled “Saturday LAPD protest”….and supports one of the summary items from ChatGPT.

On Saturday, LAPD said 29 people were arrested for failing to follow orders to disperse. 21 people were arrested Sunday. Charges against them included attempted murder with a Molotov cocktail and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, LAPD said.”

LOL,

Show me where anyone said they don't care about Jan 6th or that it was nothing. You're filling in your own reality.
LOL, yeah, I thought it was stupid back then too. I was wrong about the scale of Jan 6th immediately after and admitted as much on OP when I realized it. Always thought it was stupid.

Regardless, using the "they had a bigger and more stupid protest" as justification for new stupid protests is about as American as things get these days.
You certainly didn't think it was a big deal at first.

Certainly weren't hellbent on determining the first act of violence.

You went through the trouble of finding the article, then highlight the exact segment where they say 29 people were arrested on Saturday (6/7) for failing to disburse. Is failing to disburse a violent act? If you don't know the answer, maybe chat gpt can help you out.

HAPPENING NOW: House Democrats march to Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s office to demand answers as to what will be done in response to what happened to Alex Padilla today (Video: @anniegrayercnn)

Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem says Sen. Padilla burst in, raised his voice, and didn’t identify himself.

Sen. Merkley: "What I saw was him say: I’m a U.S. Senator."

"If Kristi Noem doesn’t know who the senator of California is...she’s either enormously uninformed – or she's enormously deceptive."

WE ARE AT WAR: Listen to what DHS Secty and future criminal defendant Kristi Noem said before she had her men attack US Senator Padilla. She said US forces will remain in LA until the city is "liberated" from the "socialist and burdensome leadership that this governor and mayor have placed on this country." It’s no longer about criminals-Trump regime is now working to remove Democratic officials and replace them with pro-Trump people.

Eric Swalwell just called for Kristi Noem to RESIGN “Kristi Noem must resign. She has deported a four year old with cancer, detained a U.S. marshal, and arrested two members of Congress. She’s lost the confidence of the American people. ICE must stop terrorizing our communities.”

Sen. Mark Kelly: "What happened today to Sen. Padilla was outrageous. It was violent. It's a scary thing to see happen in the United States of America...The Trump administration has arrested a mayor, a member of congress, and a labor leader...That is not who we are as a country."

US Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA): I was handcuffed. I was removed from the room. I was not arrested, I was not detained. If this is how this administration responds to a Senator with a question - if this is how DHS responds - you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to day laborers, throughout California and the country. We will hold the Trump administration accountable.

Senator Padilla is the ranking member on the Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship and Border Control in the Senate Judiciary Committee—the subcommittee in the Senate to which Noem is directly accountable. Her "I don't even know the man" response is an absurd insult.

Noem says the Department of Homeland Security is “not going away” and that it will “liberate” Los Angeles from its democratically elected mayor and governor.

The fascism is getting more brazen by day.

LA Mayor Karen Bass slams Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Noem arrived late last night, stayed for a few hours today, and declared it was a war zone. LA is not a war zone. Recent events have been isolated to a few blocks in a city that is over 500 square miles.

if the Secretary of Homeland Security "doesn't know" the sitting US Senator who is CHAIRMAN of the Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and BORDER SECURITY is, then why the hell does she have the job???
