US continues to go backward...

Sure hope we don't need help with an outbreak from the international community. This is so dumb.
Couple this with the freeze of the NIH and we're in trouble. Not like we need scientists doing scientist things right now. Like studying and communicating about the bird flu, which is the exact reason eggs are so expensive. Idiots.

US reducing military presence in Europe by 20%. Not very good for NATO. Also asking for funding from EU countries to pay for our presence is probably makes it harder for them to meet their NATO required defense spending goals.

At the end of the day, it's probably not the best for NATO, but it's hard to argue that it isn't the best for us.

If it's not the best for NATO it's not the best for us either.

I'm not going to pretend to be any sort of foreign policy expert, but I don't see how reducing our strength in Europe doesn't signal to our enemies that allied nations are on their own.

This is one item that all Americans should agree. We need allies to increase their share of defense spending.
I doubt we get them to 5% of GDP, but if we could get the nine largest European NATO countries to get to 3.4%, which appears possible, then that is over $300B/annually.

Its negotiating, and this negotiation more than likely going to save the US cash and ultimately put more in the NATO coffers as a whole.

I mean this paragraph from the article says it all.

Nicolás Pascual de la Parte, a former Spanish ambassador to NATO, told ABC News on Thursday: "The truth is defense spending is not popular in European countries, whether it's Spain or another European country. We grew accustomed after the Second World War to delegate our ultimate defense to the United States of America through its military umbrella, and specifically its nuclear umbrella. It's true that we need to spend more."
