I don't think anyone rational wants to see him assassinated. If a lifetime of McDonald's and diet cokes leads to its natural outcome a lot of people will be happy but turning him into martyr should be the last thing anyone not MAGA should want.
That being said the freakiest things about this to me is that the dude doesn't seem all that crazy and how easy it was for him to get somewhat close to the president. All joking/political posturing aside in general I think people that attempt things like this are crazy and politics tends to be the excuse that sends them over the edge. The guy that allegedly shot Hortmann-dude was a small town yokel who is a nutcase. Every town has a couple of them and they are easy to spot. Most of the time all they want is attention and with social media they tend to fine it. But this guy, he didn't seem to stick out until he was brandishing a firearm. I see it on reddit-foreign people on political forums like to talk trash to Americans who wouldn't have voted for Trump in a million years asking well what are you doing about it now. I feel like this guy probably got into it with some of them and decided well ok Ill really do something about it. Which is stupid and illogical but so is arguing with random people on the internet.
The ease of how close he got though, if he was a professional this could have gotten more serious quick. He went across the country with a weapon and was able to get in the same building as a ton of really important people. He wasn't able to get very close because he was just some random dude so at some level the security around the president worked. But what if he planted a bomb? Or he was some Israeli trained hit man who had the ability to get through multiple layers of security? At some point there has to be accountability in the Secret Service for how close he was able to get. And who knows-Trump has been purging the government of talent and replacing it with incompetent sycophants. Maybe that extends his security detail as well.
So Trump is responsible for horrible behavior by politicians to each other and the media and the political violence that is likely generated by it as well, but not his adherents and bootlickers that support, amplify, and repeat the same things he says and does are only 2% of the problem.

So let me get this straight. The ballroom that Trump said would be 100% private donor funded… republicans are now going to introduce legislation to approve $400 million to fund building it for his safety? Because someone with a gun was a floor a multiple security checkpoints away from him?

This whole ballroom thing is bull crap. Not that I care if the White House has a ballroom or not. Well, I do think this plan is atrocious and they have ruined what was an iconic look of the White House.
However, the president does public events ALL the time. Are we going to move every appearance to DC and the White House? There is no way that venue on Saturday should have been less secure than 90% of the campaign stops a president makes during an election cycle. It is all just another ego thing for the narcissist in chief.

1) Why is no one talking about Trump falling down? He claims he was told to get down. But you can clearly see the agents react to him going down and immediately pick him up and half carry him off. If he was given the order to get down, wouldn’t he have been told to stay down? Not one second later the agents were picking him off the ground. If this had been Biden or Hillary, MAGA would go on and on.
