Total tariff collection was $195 billion for FY 2025 – a $118 billion or 150% increase over duties collected in 2024. So, no, not hundreds of billions. If Supreme Court ruling determines that Congress must set the tariffs, it will be interesting to see if it will do it for Trump with the midterms.

So do offshore bank accounts count because if we want to get real about this I can think of a lot of people profiting on the taxpayer dime that aren't getting it in food stamps.

This one I don't mind. Its about being punitive to countries that work with a foreign advisory and not a lack of economic understanding. You can debate if its the right thing to do but its about international policy and that I can understand.

We've seen these tactics before in Argentina, Russia, Turkey, Venezuela and Zimbabwe. This is the stuff of tin pot dictators. This is the stuff that tends to precede hyperinflation. This is the sort of story that never ends well.
