President Trump says he's firing Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook, after a Trump ally accused Cook of making false statements on a mortgage application. The president's authority to remove a Fed governor may be challenged in court.
President Trump moved to fire Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook Monday, escalating his campaign to exert more control over the central bank.
In a social media post, Trump said he was dismissing Cook in response to allegations from a Trump ally that she had made false statements on a mortgage application.
Under federal law designed to insulate the central bank from political pressure, Fed governors can only be removed for cause. Trump said he had determined there was sufficient cause to fire Cook.
"The American people must be able to have full confidence in the honesty of the members entrusted with setting policy and overseeing the Federal Reserve," Trump wrote in a letter addressed to Cook. "In light of your deceitful and potentially criminal conduct in a financial matter, they cannot and I do not have such confidence in your integrity."
Earlier this month, Bill Pulte, a Trump loyalist who oversees the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, accused Cook of mortgage fraud, citing two home loans she obtained weeks apart in 2021, before joining the Federal Reserve. When was the last time someone in the U. S. openly burned an American flag for protest? It seems it goes on in other countries, such as Iran. I normally wouldn't want to burn an American flag, but Trump's actions want to make me do it as a way to protest Trump.
Like it or not, it’s your right to do so. But watch out for the Neanderthals that can’t conceive of rights only for their personal views. Flying it upside down is probably safer, and sends the same message.

Only Congress has this Authority and Trump is straight up just saying he will ignore one of the co-equal branches of Govt and Do what ever he wants to do regardless if there is a Law saying it isn't possible or not.
And he isn't doing it in some shady back room deal...he is telling it to your face that he will do it no matter what the Law says.

This is a content neutral regulation. Depending upon the facts of where he burned the flag (if he did so in an undesignated area or receptacle), this arrest could stick and be Constitutional.
