This was my EXACT THOUGHT when it was announced the party of small government would be taking over things and Trump would personally be in charge.
Seriously though, hes the flipping president. I would like to think he has better things to do than micromanage a sporting event. Also, if the IOC says screw this and moves them to a different country last minute, does that turn Okies against him? Losing Olympics softball would be a HUGE deal if that happened.

So what are they going to do, lock them in the legislative chambers so they can vote? This seems kinda like kidnapping.
And let's be honest, this is a political stunt. The dems in Texas have at least a 20 year history of skipping town when there is a vote on something they really don't like. Eventually they will be back in chambers and the vote will happen. If the Republicans were smart they would ignore it, go into recess and spring it when they have the chance. The way they are going about this between threatening legislators and using federal authorities to round them up just looks ugly.

Yeah, he can't do that. He tried to during his first term and was told he couldn't. One of the darker moments in our history is the 3/5ths compromise. It was beyond reprehensible but it established that everyone here, regardless of status gets counted.
And even if he could it won't happen fast enough to impact mid terms. The census bureau would have to draft short and long forms and have them approved. They would need to hire thousands of federal workers before they got to even hiring the actual census takers. Everyone needs to be tested and trained. I was in college during the 2000 census and got a job as a census taker. I had to take a basic skills test as part of the application process and I know for a fact that they have a bunch of applicants who dont know things like math or if assault with a deadly weapon is a felony. It takes time to week through all of the applicants.
Even if they pull off the physical census in 12 months, the data would still have to be evaluated and states will have to figure out how to parse out new districts. That takes months to figure out.
