We have basically been yinning & yanging between 2 types of “socialism adjacent” in our country over the last 50 yrs.

One where most every body benefits.

Another where the very wealthy benefit.

The cost to the country as evidenced by our National Debt and the last 2 elections is roughly the same no matter which form is applied.

Problem is that the very wealthy have convinced 45ish % that the bottom 1/3rd and POC/immigrants are the cause of the country’s problems.

Look at how Trump had outrageously wanted to put Israel First, America Second. Trump voters in those cities and states with disasters not agreeing to what Trump wanted would have been affected. To be eligible for $1.9 billion available in federal grants from FEMA for disaster preparation essentials, including emergency management salaries and rescue gear, U.S. states and cities were to agree that they would not cut off “commercial relations specifically with Israeli companies."

In essence, signing a loyalty oath to another country. From the reversal, I wonder if the Israel lobby is going to do something about it in return.

I know a lot of what we are seeing will have lasting consequences. For the future of mRNA technology I fear this will be a big one. No one in the administration seems to understand the potential this kind of technology has in treating not just viral outbreaks, but many kinds of diseases. Imagine a future where after a cancer diagnosis, a biopsy is taken and a week later the patient gets a shot that cures them. This could be the future of medicine but this will set us back years. And heck, if researchers know that their academic progress has the potential to be derailed every 4 years, how many of them find a more politically safe field to study? How many say screw it and move to Germany?

My hope is that all academics leave this country, ASAP. This kind of stuff is way too important to wait and see what happens here. My other hope is that the rest of the world decides they don't need the US and moves on. Honestly, it could be one of the biggest unifying events the world has ever seen.
