Joe Kent — former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, who resigned last week over the Iran war — says he’s willing to testify for the defense in the Tyler Robinson murder trial.

Robinson confessed to killing Charlie Kirk in a text message and in a note. His DNA is on the weapon. He was turned in by his own parents.

Kent told journalist Michael Shellenberger that the FBI didn’t properly investigate a potential “foreign nexus” and that he was blocked from pursuing leads.

A law enforcement official responded that Kent had no statutory authority to access those files to begin with — he wasn’t blocked from an investigation, he was blocked from files that weren’t his to access.

Kent says he knew testifying could help the defense before he went public. His response: “If it gets us to the truth, then so be it.
Also worth noting: after Kirk’s assassination, Charlie Kirk Show co-host Andrew Kolvet gave Kent texts from a group chat Kirk had been in.

Kent reportedly pushed Kolvet to release them publicly. Kolvet declined. The texts then ended up with Candace Owens, who used them to push conspiracy theories about Kirk’s death.

Kent is also currently under FBI investigation for allegedly leaking classified information.
