Trump 47

The mental gymnastics on both sides deserves its spot on a Wheaties box. This whole thread just reinforces my yearning for a moderate leader to step up. We’re so effing divided and polarized. We’re creating “enemies within” and sometimes acting like them ourselves. Our true enemies have to be licking their chops.

I don't think we are all that divided. When people step away from computers and actually talk things out there's usually a lot of common ground. I think we have 5% on each side that makes the most noise creating the perception of a divide.

I will say it again, the only reason we are here is because the democrats made a substantial misstep in the last election. Its not because half of the country is nuts. It was a red pill blue pill election.

wait, what?! not that divided? tRump is a pretty good divider, and his sidekick musk is doing a pretty good job himself...5%?? not sure what percentage but the divide I feel is: 1% vs all else, except many middle to upper income people speak for the billionaires (will never understand that one)...racism is alive and well in our country, and is starting to tick back up...the LGBTQ+ community is being attacked...I could go on, but it doesn´t matter...
we are here because covid destroyed ALL countries economies, but the right thinks it was joe that did it...tRump won this election because he promised prices would go down (not happening, not gonna happen) and immigration (he is following through with this, but I don´t like all of what is being done)...

People that have supported or turned a blind eye to trump have made it clear they prefer treating people with no respect to any other way. So we are divided on the issues that actually matter.

Ok, I apologize. Worlds on fire. Carry on.

I agree that “most noise is creating the perception of the divide”, but I do think it is more than 5%.

Shoot, just take the online OSU community on political boards. We have this board which is far left and/or anti-Trump. And the other OSU board which is far-right and/or MAGA. Sprinkled in on both of those boards are liberals, lean-left Dems, moderates, lean-right GOP, conservatives, and a few libertarians. However, both board’s posting is dominated by fairly far-left or far-right thinking — because those are the complainers and ones that are deep in the kool-aid. The boards just become echo chambers. Pretty similar to the echo chambers we see on MSNBC talk shows or Fox News talk shows.

I also agree with you that when people step away from computers they can find common ground. My guess is that many on here that continually disagree would find common perceptions over a beer. Sometimes hard to do with half-duplex conversations on an online board.

I get what you’re saying and mostly agree. But the fact that Trump won the Republican nomination and the rest of the party is too spineless to stand up to him is not on the Democrats. But they sure did piss away an opportunity to offer a viable candidate for the election. Plain stupidity.

many people used to support the treatment/movement/assimilation of natives, many people used to support segregation, today it is just an acceptance of other discriminations, 50 years from now people (hopefully) will be asking ´why did they have such a hatred of gays, trans, immigrants, womens rights, etc.?´...we just find other people/groups to discriminate against, cuz they ain´t like us!

I don't think you understand what far left is. Anti Trump I agree but it's not like we are talking about electric cars or veganism here.

Were not talking monster trucks, beef, and bullets either yet if you question the general direction of the board around here you are a MAGA. LOL.

With most administrations there is some grey area where you support some policies but not others. The current administration wants to be defined not by policy though, but authoritarianism and consolidation of power under the executive branch and its unelected officials. You either support that or you don't.

So yeah, there is no republican party anymore. It's either MAGA or the rest of us. Calling someone who isn't a fan of unelected billionaires having access to sensitive individual information doesn't make someone liberal or conservative. Being ok with it because you think people who dress differently than you are weird makes you complicit so you might as well admit it and start wearing a red hat.
