Agree it will suck and it will raise prices. I would love to know the history as to why we allowed such a disparity and imbalance on tariff rates. Nearly 75% of European cars imported to the US are from German companies. No wonder Germany is upset, but they should be pushing the EU to lower the tariffs.I'm not anywhere near an expert when it comes to international trade. Fairly clueless to be real about it. The perception I have is that our tariff threats are basically being made as a negotiation tactic. It seems like everyone across the board is against major auto tariffs. I don't think our intentions are to actually implement these.....but if Europe and everyone else calls the bluff I don't think Trump will back off and that will suck.
Oddly the European tariffs hurt the makers of parts for cars more than Americans auto manufacturers. American auto makers can circumvent most, if not all, the European tariff by utilizing a certain amount of parts made in Europe. That incentivizes auto makers to prioritize European companies over American.
