Dream on for now. But it's still a long time until November. A large part of it rides on whether Trump loses further popularity in Texas. And what DonnyBoy said: "Don’t underestimate how fed-up sane people are with the rhetoric of both parties.
To me, that means many people don't want to hear crazy talk about how any Republican is spending time obsessed over a Democrat's religious beliefs while the economy keeps getting worse and with a war going on.

Like I've said before Republican legislators, who like me, know little to nothing about transgender care should just leave them alone and let doctors worry about their care.

James Talarico is not a leftist. He uses some class language when campaigning, that is it. He is not even supporting medicare for all, which is the minimum "leftist" position, IMO.

Abbot is a corrupt whackjob and Texas A&M alumni. The latter is enough for me not to like him.

We have friends with a trans child. They were harassed so brutally in Texas that they were suicidal and had to be institutionalized for a period for their own safety. They were harassed not because they were transitioning, but because they simply changed their name and grew out their hair.

I know for a fact that our friends wanted a trans child more than a dead one.

So, who is protecting kids here?

Thanks for asking. They are doing quite a bit better, actually. Moved to another state for college. They found they have more independence and strength than anticipated. Getting away from their school and church helped. Their parents are Mormon, so you can imagine how that compounds things. Their parents are very loving, but were so conflicted by this. They chose to love their child but won’t condone their orientation.

Almost all their parents’ friends are Mormon. So that makes them feel judged and an outcast. Their parents told us their child felt at home with us. We have dinner with this family every Sunday night. Their child feels loved and accepted by us and considers us family.

I think having this connection with our friends and their child has made me more sensitive to these issues. When I hear “trans,” I think of a person, not a threat or a political agenda.
