I agree with this. And I also think he deserved to be fired. If Boynton was an elite recruiter he failed miserably at evaluation and player development.

To clarify, I don't mean by elite recruiter that his evaluations were good. I mean that he got guys that we were very excited about when they signed because they were highly ranked and had offers from the kind of schools that make the tournament regularly.Boynton got Cade. And he had to hire his brother to get him. Other than that he couldn’t build a deep roster. Who was his next player to recruit besides Cade? Brandon Garrison? He was meh. Rondell Walker? Meh. Eric Dailey? Avery Anderson?
Would you? That’s so cool. And clever.
Yeah. Reporters can't ask hard questions. That is unacceptable. And that would be the last press conference he got to attend because his editor would fire him.
Anything is better than Miller.North Carolina fans that I’ve seen actually seem to complain about his shot selection, over dribbling, and lack of a tight handle leading to turnovers. Sounds a lot like Roy. I watched a handful of Tar Heels games this year. I thought Bogan seemed locked in and connected on defense. He plays tough. I can say with confidence he’ll be an upgrade on the defensive end compared to Miller and Roy.

Cade is obviously the crown jewel for Boynton at OSU and I don't discount that at all because he hired his brother. He did what he needed to do within the rules to land the #1 overall player in the country who would become the #1 overall NBA draft pick to the disappointment of every blue blood school in the country. Elite recruiting.
MA Moncrieffe was in Cade's class and was highly ranked (mid-60s overall). He was a bust but that was a good recruiting win.
Moussa Cisse and Bryce Thompson came in as transfers in the same class. Bryce was a McDonald's All-American (about #20 overall out of HS) and Moussa was the #12 recruit in the country out of HS (according to 247).
Eric Dailey ranked #38 and Brandon Garrison #45 overall in their classes.
Those aren't the kind of guys that OSU usually lands, particularly Cade, Moussa, and Bryce. I feel that a reasonable argument is made that Boynton was an elite recruiter based on what he brought in at OSU.
I apologize for derailing the thread topic. I won't continue to argue the point.
All of these are good counter arguments. You're right about Cade. Moncrieff we only beat out Georgia for his services, and he later transferred there. Bryce Thompson was damaged goods after his bad freshman year at KU. Moussa was definitely a big time transfer pick up. Dailey and Garrison were also good pickups at the time. To clarify, I think Boynton was a good recruiter. I just don't think he was elite. He couldn't build depth or put together a group that worked really well together, those were his biggest flaws. Which is hilarious because he seems to be one of the main guys that hepled put together that type of roster at Michigan. But even with Michigan, they hit on some guys that were high risk high reward, Caddeau and Mara specifically. Every type of guy like that at OSU didn't work out for Boynton. To clarify, I don't mean by elite recruiter that his evaluations were good. The Eaton, Nash, Harris & Green class under Sean is still the highest ranked class?Cade is obviously the biggest recruit we’ve ever landed, but getting top 100 players isn’t particularly unusual. Travis Ford had some great classes and Lutz is doing it too. Almond, Montonati and Robinson are all guys he had to beat out blue bloods for and last year’s transfer class was full of 4 star guys.
In the Big 12 everyone has good players. It’s the coaching that makes the difference.
Add Flemings to that class too.The Eaton, Nash, Harris & Green class under Sean is still the highest ranked class?
Forgot Flemings!Add Flemings to that class too.
I was sooooo excited for all those guys to come in. Don't forget Brumbaugh too. He was DOMINATING guys in the team scrimmages.Forgot Flemings!
My larger point is that OSU fans should be fully aware that a good/great recruiting class doesn’t guarantee anything.
That is the end of the window to enter the portal, players don't have to sign by the end of that window. So we have three confirmed plus surely Ragland comes back too, do we get some other commits over the weekend? The window closes the 21st right? Seems like alot to still add until then.

I think it’s completely legitimate for us to ask him how he’s going to be a better coach next year. He’s probably asking himself the same question. At least I hope he is.Asking hard questions is alright. Antagonizing coaches just because shouldn't be.
Won’t have to worry about that in one of the friendliest media markets a coach could ever dream of.Asking hard questions is alright. Antagonizing coaches just because shouldn't be.
Reporters literally asked Lutz and players similar questions. Did you watch the press conferences? Kanye Clary and other players owned up to it, said the coaches have told them what to do and the players weren’t executing. Coach also owned it multiple ways on multiple occasions. But I get it, people are still pissed our defense was atrocious. But to accuse the coaching staff of just being “ho hum, oh well, don’t care about it” is just comical.I think it’s completely legitimate for us to ask him how he’s going to be a better coach next year. I’d take Boynton over Steve all day, every day, 365 days a year. There’s not one aspect of Steve that’s been even slightly impressive—or good. He refuses to interact with the student body, something Boynton did enthusiastically. Beyond basketball, most fans have no idea how important Boynton was to this university. That’s all I’ll say about that.Boynton got Cade. And he had to hire his brother to get him. Other than that he couldn’t build a deep roster. Who was his next player to recruit besides Cade? Steve will be gone. Terrible hire. Ridiculous choice by the AD.Reporters literally asked Lutz and players similar questions. Did you watch the press conferences?
