Yes, I know that is what is coached and easy for you to say from behind your keyboard/monitor. But also realize the kid is our most consistent player and is experiencing the fouls, getting slapped, smacked and popped with an official standing there watching and swallowing the whistle. I’ll cut him some slack on that one.Lost his cool because he continues to get assaulted down low with no call.
A lot of basketball programs find themselves in a similar situation. I hope to potential transfers and young recruits it looks like Coach has created a good atmosphere to play and improve. If we can get there, then we take big steps forward. What really sucks is getting so many 5th yr guys who we can’t rely on next yr. 90% will be gone and we will have to reteach our systems again. Wish we could’ve grabbed some Jrs to have back next yr. Don’t we lose BT, Newman, Jennings, ChiChi, Pat, Dean, Davis and I’m sure Dow goes to Tulsa. Won’t we have Jamyron and the tall European as our only options to return?
Dean, Jennings, Keller, Vukovic and Dow all return. We have two solid freshmen coming in. Compared to what we returned this year, the returnees look pretty solid. Dean and Jennings can be rotation pieces on good teams. Keller has improved this year compared to last year. Vukovic after a year in the weight room and US could also make improvements. Crotty will be an immediate upgrade over Dow. I expect Ragland to redshirt. Finding a replacement for Bryce’s scoring should be easy, and will likely come with less turnovers and more efficiency. Every other team has the issue of replacing senior transfers, so it shouldn’t be a worry at all. What really sucks is getting so many 5th yr guys who we can’t rely on next yr. 90% will be gone and we will have to reteach our systems again. Do you actually believe half the stuff you post? Like, you look in the mirror and say to yourself you’re right on this stuff? Cause most of it is just really, really dumb. The boys hustled... can't deny that. Steve's thrown-together roster is completely void of talent needed for this level of competition . More than likely, next year will be an entirely different team. Steve knows that too.
I believe a first-year HC should always get a pass. Hopefully, Steve and Co. will build an entirely new roster capable of success. If not, he won’t get seven years like Boynton. Believe me when I say this: Boynton was hired and stayed for seven years, not because he was successful (he most certainly wasn't). Boynton played a crucial role in shaping the culture of all sports within the athletic program. And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand what I’m saying.
Steve had three years of HC experience. Those three years didn’t show anything about how good of a HC Steve is or will be. I think Steve was a mistake. Then again, OSU will never be able to hire an established, successful HC.
The truth is, Holder destroyed the basketball program. And because of football, the basketball program will be completely ignored and will forever remain irrelevant. I'm a die hard fan of OSU basketball. I yearn to have success. Wil that ever happen? The answer is depressing.
How could his three years of successful head coaching (and background at Purdue) not show anything about how good of a coach he can be? What other indicator do you go by?The boys hustled... can't deny that. Steve's thrown-together roster is completely void of talent needed for this level of competition .
