OT College FB Playoff, Hiring/Portal Thread

Kevin Johns joins Lebbby at MSU.

There were times when he dialed up some great drives. Others not so much. Either way he didn't have much to work with.

Briles got the boot in May of 2016. Grobe got an 8-month contract to be the interim coach for one season.

That was before NIL and the portal though. When Briles was fired their incoming class was gutted and although the timing was awful for Michigan they have a chance to not let this be as impactful to their talent level. I don't think that works if they sign a 66 year old man to a one year deal.

When Briles got fired it was too late to hire anyone but an interim head coach to get Baylor by until the next hiring cycle. Grobe was retired and didn’t want a multi-year job, he took the interim job as a favor to the AD knowing it was a short-term gig. Whittingham was hired in December, which is during the normal hiring cycle. If Whittingham is winning games, he will be at Michigan as long as he wants.

He'll be there as long as he makes noise in the tournament and beats Ohio State.

That is a valid question.

But in Johns' defense, I'm not sure Bill Walsh could have done much with this D2 group
I actually thought that John’s did a better job at tailoring the game plan to our QBs strengths. When Jackson was at QB he ran him a lot, got him out of the pocket. When Flores was in he threw the ball down the field as best he could. Meachum tried to turn Jackson into a pocket QB and it was a disaster.

This one's big. Drew Mestemaker signs with Oklahoma State!

Some OSU fans' reaction online remind me where our past small-minded thinking comes from...geez. We spend some money to get a top player in the portal and they bitch about it. He's not the savior of the program, but he'll be the best we've had in quite a while, especially when coached by EM.
