OSU vs Southern Ill

Will take the win! Hate to see the team give away an 18 point lead. We went over 4 minutes without goal. We need to get that motion offense more productive. But the defense is terrific! That defense will keep us in a lot of games this year.

I honestly don’t know what the secret ingredient to basketball success any more is because it feels like it’s perimeter passing until someone gets selfish and shoots a 3. I don’t know if they had a fast PG defender or what but it feels like we should’ve been able to drive the paint more. Does the lack of inside presence besides Ousmane hurt us with the dribble penetration? We dribble into trees then pass out.

Listened to Lutz on the way home from the game and he alluded to this.

Said Brantley and Davis have to be better and more consistent finishing drives and making layups.

Also said he knew he had 2 timeouts and wanted to see how the team would respond. Wished it hadn’t gotten so close. I took away from his comments that in conference play or big games he would use his timeouts to stop runs.

One of the OSU players interviewed after last night’s game indicated that Coach Lutz does not allow mistakes in practice. He relentlessly corrects them. I think it is going to be a long season but with that type of attitude I think we might get a couple of upsets. I do not think we will have a winning record this year. Yet it seems we have a very good coach.

I think we can get to +/- 2 games of 500 and build from there. I like the type of player he brings in, basketball players who can be coached.

The sample size is only 3 games but I like that we are watching basketball again. Good sets. Attention to detail. In game coaching to correct players which produce immediate on court results. Limited turnovers. Above average shot selection. Hustle and hard nosed effort.

We might get ran a couple of games but it’s fun to watch so far.

I love his attention to detail. Specifically situational personnel and sets. Also love that he seems to have a quick hook for bonehead mistakes.

Encouraged by the way these guys play. I predict winning a few games we aren’t expected to win. Yes there are a TON of new faces but they are starting to gel and most of them are upper-classmen.

Some random thoughts. Assists in the first 3 games went 12, 14, 19. Turnovers went 13, 10, 7. That's a pretty small sample size but both stats are going in the right direction. Double digit steals in every game is also fantastic. I know it will take some time to bring the crowds back but I really think this style of play, with steals leading to fast breaks, is the style of play that can whip a full GIA into a frenzy and I want to be there when that happens.

Currently ranked opponents at home; Houston, Arizona, ISU, Cincy. Currently ranked opponents on the road; Houston, Kansas, Baylor. Can we steal two of those at home? Unfortunately, the first opportunity comes on Dec 30 against Houston when school is out so the students might not be around.

We close the season @KU, ISU, @BU, @UCF, Cincy. That is a tough stretch to end a season.

I am obviously not happy with the scoring drought to end the game last night; however, it was still a W when in years past that type of finish resulted in L's. All in all, I'm excited about BBall again, and not a minute too soon considering what we've endured with football this year.

Finally got those guys! Wish we had closed out a little better but excited about the future of this program for the first time in a long time
Wasn’t it nice to see a team making those free throws especially when they needed to make them! I was up in the nosebleeds with a group in front of me called the Cushing crowd!!! My goodness those individual tickets are CHEAP but glad I got the season tickets prior to the start of the season!

Are they really $1 each?
