OSU at Utah

We're no Kansas, but sounds like most Complainers on the venue would do the same for a Favorite Son

I know, I know, pick apart. A few on this board seem to be BB coaches, better than Self..

Based on recent analysis and comments from Bill Self regarding Kansas (KU) basketball, the team's defensive strategies have faced scrutiny, particularly when high-pressure tactics or aggressive help defense lead to open opportunities for opponents.
Key details regarding KU's defense and its risks:
  • Aggressive Help Defense Risks: Self's defensive schemes often rely on intense pressure and help, but this can lead to situations where defenders "dive down" too far to help on post players, leaving shooters open on the perimeter.
  • Issues with Switching: When the team switches on defense, particularly with big men, it can leave them vulnerable against quicker perimeter players.
  • Poor Defensive Execution: During the 2024-2025 season, Self has criticized the team's "soft" defense, poor rebounding, and lack of communication, which has resulted in easy baskets for opponents.
  • "Havoc" vs. Control: While Self often encourages "causing havoc" to create turnovers, inconsistent defensive effort has sometimes resulted in defensive breakdowns rather than forced turnovers.
  • Impact of Personnel: The lack of an elite rim-protector in some seasons has made the defense more reliant on perimeter containment, which, if broken, leaves the basket exposed.
In summary, the high-pressure, aggressive defensive style championed by Bill Self is designed to create turnovers, but if not executed with proper discipline, it can result in giving up open looks to opponents.

Next two games are brutal but some winnable games in February. Go 5-3 in February that puts us at 8-8 in conference and firmly on the bubble. Just need a win over a ranked win. As bad as the last few weeks has been everything they want is still out there
I’m as optimistic as anyone, but 5-3 would be way beyond expectations. Utah was and is the worst team in the conference, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up after Lutz’s first ever road conf win. Winning on the road against Cinccy, Arizona State, and Colorado are all a coin flip. Kansas and WVU are both playing much better lately. Arizona and BYU would be massive upsets. TCU at home is likely the only game in that stretch we’ll be the betting favorites.

I have zero expectation that it will happen just pointing out that February gives this team an opportunity if they can figure out how to take advantage of it.

Pretty simple February plan.
1) PGs don’t shoot unless a layup
2) shooting guards don’t dribble
3) Parsah should never leave the paint area and touch it every possession. Don’t dribble into an 8 person paint
4) Guards play inside out, penetrate and kick out to 3pt shooters
5) rebound the damn shot instead of retreating like the British after every single shot
6) find ways to NOT kill momentum. Hit 2 3s in a row then terrible shots followed by turnovers. Play smart basketball
7) Out assists to turnovers needs to increase dramatically. Almost a 1:1. Pass pass pass pass pass then shot
8) Get CColmean to 10+ points: they’re 8-1 when that happens.
9) 25-0 when scoring 81+ points
10) TEAM BASKETBALL

Pretty vanilla

I think you want The Big Fallah coming to the top and setting some ball picks and shooting the occasional three.

Our PGs have had good nights shooting from 15.

Shooting guards have to dribble sometimes to move the ball into a good shooting position or good passing lane.
